10/26/2020 Monday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, our buddy Diane and Melody.

Diane took a look on the east side, and found some wallows but no critter.  She did take the opportunity to look at Rabbit Island and found six critters on Rabbit Island. She was not able to ID any of them other than all but one looked to be younger, juvenile, weaner in size.

Team Billand was up and at em at 6:30 this morning. They did two sessions at the bay today one in the morning from 6:30 to 9:30 and afternoon session from 2:45 to $:30 pm

Early morning they were greeted with a wonderful surprise to find RH36 Kawena. It took time and

patience to get that tag shot between the early morning light and multiple seals foraging. But persistence paid off and sure enough it was RH36.

Then there was Lei Ola RH48 id'd by her scar on her neck and minty green face. They even managed to get a shot of her eating a fish.

Team Billand could hear the fishermen yelling and sure enough there was butthead Kaale RH32 going back and stealing the fish.  Seems he's the only one that has mastered this bad habit.

Afternoon when they arrived at the bay and found R3CX Nalu foraging along with Lei Ola RH48 and Kawena RH36. Seems Mr. Nalu is quite the ladies man. They were foraging along the jetty and at times closer to the boats.

Team Billand met a very cool lady named Nancy who swims daily. Team Billand also spotted a turtle as well as a group of pigeons hanging out. Seems there is a lot of activity going on here.

Team Billand spotted RL12 Aukai with another seal. They were not able to get an ID on the seal with her.

Melody got a text late last night that a seal hauled out at Waikiki and thought it to be Rocky. So she was up early this morning to check and sure enough Mama Rocky was there at 7 am. She called the hotline. There was already a zone set up and Rocky was resting

comfortably. Lots of people were out and about for water activities and fishing. At one point Rocky rolled in some fishing line on the beach, but she managed to get out of it pretty quickly. Rocky left the beach a little after 8 am.

As Melody was leaving Rocky someone mentioned there was another seal, so she went to check out before leaving. There was da Benny RE74 with his belly exposed. He defiantly spending a strange place to molt. At least the life guards are around.
