Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and a special video from a diver on the east side.
I got a text this morning from Diver Paul H who had seen a young seal swimming with two white tip sharks on the east side. The "weaner" looked to have a applied bleach "67" which is more likely L9 a weaner from Molokai that had been seen recently. Paul wasn't able to get any photos of the critter. However later this afternoon Paul sent a link of a video taken by another diver Mike Eberlein. ENJOY!
Team Billand found R407 Kawika at 6:50 am high up on shore fronting the parking lot at one of the
west side location. He is now 100% done molting, exposing his big natural bleach on the left side of his rump.At 7:16 am Team Billand noticed three swimmers enter the water and there is a seal coming towards them. They pointed to the seal, two of the folks got out fast, the guy wasn't sure and was getting hit by the waves. The seal coming in was Ka'ale RH32 was right by him and he didn't notice. Ka'ale went on by Kawika R407, but he looked to be struggling. They noticed there was another line. He met up with R407, they entered the water together. Ka'ale was rolling over and over and appears to rid himself of the line. They played in the water, then the rains came. The seals hauled up again left of the gate.
At 8 am there were two seals swimming, so Team Billand ran to catch up. Here come the ladies, turns out it was RH92 Leina who they hadn't seen in a while. And the other was "royal lady" Aukai RL12. What a nice surprise to find both these females. Nalani RH92 is looking good in her new coat, and Aukai is fat and happy. Nalani kept bugging Aukai, until Aukai let her have it, but Nalani kept at it. Finally they both went to sleep.
At another west side location at 10:16 Team Billand found RL70 Leina inland with some new bumps on her mid back. When they looked closer they determined the bumps were caused by vana (sea urchin). She would roll on her back to scratch the vana needles off. Other than that she looks good.
RG28 Lefty was near the seal inlet, got washed off by waves, galumphed towards the right, where he was happy to find RH76 Kala. She was practically in the same spot as yesterday. Lefty galumphed all the way to her and just stayed right there by her face. She turned on her side but they remained together and resting.
