10/6/2014 Lesley's Windward Monitoring Trek

The day started early with pretty dawn colors followed by a beautiful sunrise as I left the house, I had to stop at Lanai lookout out to watch it for a while.

Just as I drove by the BlowHole I saw SPZ signs at the very end of Sandy Beach. I did the drive thru and checked on RN46 "Kea"  at the Outfall. DB had an early start today

I drove over to Diane's and we did Windward (Kualoa, Hauula, Malaekahana, Kahuku) monitoring. Karen Turner joined us for Marconi Rd / High Rock & TBR monitoring.
We found RT10 "Ua'Malie" rolling from side to side at the base of High Rock. We observed her for half an hour, until she decided she had enough of it, entered the water and swam away.
We drove to TBR and hiked to Hanak’ilio Beach (2nd Beach /Marconi Rd) where we found RK82 "La'akea" sleeping peacefully near the waterline. There was a fairly big group of youngsters camping and some fishermen all were very respectful and kept their distance from the seal.

As we started of the day we noticed many people on the beaches with kids, very unusual for a Monday. It took us a while to find out that public schools are on Fall Break this week.  Aloha,  Lesley
