That , of course , would not be the end of the Kea tale. On my 4th recheck at 0822 I found an arriving Kea (RN46) on the outfall, moving up. We cordoned him off, and he remained the day.
There is yet another chapter to the Kea saga. At 1657 I got a call from Dana, who advised of a Hotline call from HPD, reporting “people crowding around a seal at the AD end of Sandy Beach”. Having no idea what that could mean, both Marilyn & I responded. Marilyn going to Kea, while I began at Crappy Cove and began working my way toward AD by car. At 1707 Marilyn called to advise that when she arrived on the beach, everyone in the vicinity came to her advise that a very large, and very obnoxious guy had blatantly gone into the SPZ and right up to Kea, to get up close and personals. While the crowd told him he shouldn’t be in there, he apparently became quite obnoxious with the crowd and continued, while Kea barked and postured. One of the ladies called HPD, hoping for police help, but Marilyn was what they got. When Marilyn arrived the guy was gone, and Kea remained in the Naupaka. Sad ! Kea was snoozin’ in the Naupaka at dark.
Marilyn called this morning at 0945 to advise that she was with Kaiwi (RK96) at China Walls. Actually, one of the new posse ladies , Lisa, who had been with Marilyn yesterday on the count, texted Marilyn to advise that she had found Kaiwi there at 0915. Thank you Lisa... that is what a posse is all about. Ya’ Done Good !! Melanie called at 1234 to advise that Kaiwi was still there on her rounds.
My Rabbit Island day was very nearly a U/U fest, but I managed figure out most of the cast. On my first look I found Duke (RA12) on the rocks at the left end of the beach. When I got back, at 0916 I found what would turn out to be Buster (RV08) fronting 1BS, but it would take literally all day to get the ID. Thank God for 3 tags ! Also at 0916 I found a barely visible animal behind the rocks of Rocky Right Beach. It remained barely visible all day, and an U/U is required. On a routine pan of the beach at 1005 I suddenly became aware of a partially visible animal at Seal Rock Inlet. It would prove to be Kolohe (RW22), though I never got a full blown look at him.
Team Billand checked in at 0956 with the report of Haupu (RB24) at Paradise Cove, on the rocks.
At 1030 the called with the report of Benny (RE74) at Secrets. At 1240 they called to advise that Benny had departed Secrets and was now in the company of Haupu at PC.
The next Billand call came at 1450 with the report of Pohaku (RO28) once again fronting the recyling property at Campbell Industrial Park. They had reported her at the same location on the 24th.
A call from Marilyn at 1717 advised that posse member, Ken Tingman had called her with the report of RL42 on the back beach at Ka’ena Point, and 3 other players to be named later. Photos tomorrow. Thank You Ken !
Diane “Diga” Gabriel sent shots of their find of R5AY , behind the Kahuku Golf Course, yesterday during the Seal Count. Thank You Diga !
