July 22, 2024 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B and yours truly.

I made it to the pier this afternoon for a quick check of Rabbit Island. I wasn't able to go over the weekend since the pier is locked to the public.
During my observation there were only two seals both on LPB.
On the Lanikai side of LPB was one of the weaners with its new red tags. My best guess this is RT19 formerly PO8. He is chubby but I don't think quite chubby enough to be Manapua aka PO3.
About 50 feet int he Makapuu direction was an Adult Female who has started her molt. I did not see any tags. I have to say neither seal moved much, other than turning on its side.

Team R&B started their day at Kahe finding two seals hauled out on the rocks. There was RM31 Kai with R617 snoozing. They are both putting on some weight, probably from all the good eats in the area.

Next find was at cliffs, where they first spotted RL42 Leia. They were focusing on her tag to get a positive ID and that's when they saw RN14 Kalani.  He was there blending in with the rocks.
RN14 got all worked up with out of no where a 3rd seal came into
view. It was poor little RP30 Puka.
RN14 was in cruise mode and was acting out to keep RL42 all to himself. He was barking posturing and barking. When RL42 moved up on the rocks he followed.  RP30 Puka just kept his distance.
Team R&B were pretty happy observing these three seals in one spot with all kinds of action. Added bonus there were no people around, no boats, no swimmers or snorkelers, just the seals being seals.
