Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:45 to 2:35 pm and there were seven seals seen during that time.
When she arrived there were three seals on LPB:
RH76 Kala and PO8 were mid-beach, first snoozing and later PO8 was nursing. PO8 is a male, so both this year's surviving Rabbit Island pups are male. Marilyn suspects Kala will wean PO8 soon.
An Adult Female was initially high up on LPB, but later moved downnear RH76 and PO8, then back up the beach and back down again. She entered the water about 1:30 pm, swam a short distance in the Makapuu direction and hauled out again near 1BS. The AF is adult size, older coat with brown female belly and two tags. She may have a scar above her left eye and at least one white nail on her LFF.
RL12 Aukai tried to haul out on LPB at 1:25 pm, but her adopted pup PO3 stayed in the water so Aukai joined him. At 2:15 pm, Aukai and PO3 did haul out near 1BS and moved up the beach for a nursing session. The big question, how long will Aukai keep nursing blubber butt.
When Marilyn first started viewing a Sub-adult Female was alone on the beach between 3BS and SRI. The SF is small sub-adult size older coat with some green, female belly and two red tags.
The SF was joined by RK37 Huia about 1:35 pm. RK37 was ID'd by her adult size, new coat, light gray female belly, tow red tags and nb on her lower left side. After RK37's arrival the SF entered the water for a short time then hauled out on the other side of RK37.
Team R&B started their day at Kahe where there was a very raresighting. They were thrilled to watch eagle rays swimming and fighting in the water. At one point there were five of them.
At another west side location they found their first seal. There was R416 Makalii alone. He was resting on the rocks peacefully in the sunshine.
Next at the cliffs they found Miss Lei Ola RH48. She was basking in the sun, then heading to the pond to cool off. She is about 92% molted.
They also saw Kaale RH32 near where Lei Ola was resting. He was sleeping even with the waves crashing over him from the right and left. Finally he was rolled by a wave and woke up looking for Lei Ola. Its unclear if he realized she was hiding in the shallow pond.
Lastly they saw a seal hidden in the rocks. They could see it was a female, with two red tags and molting. They determined it was RL70 Leina.
And of course there were the dolphins doing what they do best. Thank you Team R&B for capturing these amazing shots.
