Jan 17, 2023 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Tammy, Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 2:40 and there were a total of four seals.
Near a surge channel on the Lanikai side of LPB was an Adult Female: large adult size, tannish gray female belly and at least one red tag. She was among the waterfront rocks which made it hard to see any markers.
About 50 feet Makapuu side of 3BS was an Adult Male #1: adult size, dark coat, dark gray male belly and unsure about tags.
About 100 feet Makapuu side of A/M1 was Adult Male #2: adult size, medium gray male belly and unsure about tags.
At about 1:15 and Unknown Adult hauled out on the waterfront rocks near A/M2. The U/A then galumphed about 15-20 feet away behind waterfront rocks. The U/A was adult size and had at least one red tag.

Tammy hiked solo to the point today. She only saw two seals today.
There was RO40 Ka'ena who was resting in the main pool.
As she was leaving she saw PvKauai RW02.

Team R&B had been out for hours before they found a seal. They had gone to several spots coming up empty. Finally they spotted a small seal haul out at tracks.
They drove over to find RL20 Kalua, looking just fine. A surfer spotted him from the hill and walked within inches of him. Thankfully RL20 Kalua remained.
They did note he was still there at 1:40 this afternoon.

They spent time at the outfall observing a seal foraging. They could see the seal had CC scars but they could not make a positive ID. The seal never hauled out. It was reported as an U/A.

While looking for seals they got to see three separate pods of whales passing by. There wasn't any breaching, just a lot of spouting. Comp pods are a female whale being followed by many males.

Team R&B got a text from Melody about a seal on shore, then a second text of another seal. So of course they headed over and there on shore was: Kekoa Alii RK72 and to his right was Nalu R3CX.
Melody was kind enough to talk and educate all the people gathering. Team R&B spent time studying the seals to confirm their IDs.
Kekoa Alii is looking quite handsome in his new coat.

Then they heard a seal had hauled out close by so they went to check. They got there and there was the lovely RL12 Aukai to the left snoozing. There were lots of people out today going after the turtles. There was a volunteer on site with a couple of signs up. Aukai was resting peacefully.

Lastly Team R&B stopped at another west side location and there were no seals on the rocks on in the ponds.  But after a little bit they spotted an adult seal foraging off the rocks. With the glare of the sun and the big waves they could not make an ID other than an adult.
