Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:15 to 3:25 and there were three seals on island today.
Almost directly down from the 3BS was a Juvenile Male: juvenile size, light gray belly and possible two red tags. He looks a little thin but just may be is stretched out position.
On waterfront rocks between 3BS and SRI was an Adult Female: adult size, light tannish gray female belly and possible tags. This may be the UA2 from yesterday.
Among the rock flats on Mauka side of SRI was an Unknown Unknown. Looked to be subadult to adult size, but not much else to go on.
Just as Marilyn packed away her gear she saw a whale spout just in front of the Lanikai end of Rabbit Island. Then there was another whale spout and a whale tail as it dove under.
Melody went out to the west side checking beaches, when she got a text from Team R&B that there were a couple of seals. Melody let them know she was available to help, so she brought signs and cones ready for the people on the beach (based on Team R&B terrible day yesterday).
When Melody met up with them they set up a zone for RG28 Lefty and R413 Makamae. They spoke with some visitors from the east coast that were thrilled to see the two seals. They spent the time doing outreach and education. A volunteer arrived around lunch time.
Melody got word of another seal at plains so she went to investigate. When she arrived she found RH92 Nalani. She already had a nice SRA set up around her and snoozing right infront of the lifeguard tower. She called the hotline once she got the ID. There were lots of interested folks talking photos and asking question. RH92 is looking pretty plump these days.
Melody called it a day at 4 pm.
Team R&B started their day at a west side location nice and early. They found brothers together RM31 Kai and RP30 Puka. They were in a small pond playing together. They both had scratches and welts from their rough play. Its been awhile seeing two seals at full on play. This was a big pick me up from yesterday's awful day.
To the far right was big boy RW02 PvKauai sound a sleep and uninvolved with the two youngsters.
It's been a longtime wish for Team R&B to catch a double breach. And today that came trued. There was a pair of whales that were breaching multiple times. They were there with a friend and they were so happy they were cheering. ! See wishes do come true.
They had scanned the coastline and wasn't sure if there wererocks or seals on shore. ( I can relate). They hurried over and there was RG28 and R413. They called the hotline and waited.
Melody came by and helped educate and and keep the folks
back.
back.
As they were watching they happen to see a boobie flying low. To their surprise and disgust there was a ziplock bag through its beak. We can only hope it frees itself.
