Tammy hiked Kaena point with Lesley today. Its been a bit since she been out there, but new year and she was out.
Interesting note, all the seals they saw today none were "Oahu" seals. First find was RL98 Lina who looks like she had spent the night at her favorite beach.
In the bird word they saw an unbanded Black Footed Albatross. Lots of Laysan Albatross flying around. And if that wasn't enough the whales were out tail slapping and a couple of breaches.
When they got to the main pool there were three seals. On the island were Kiane R604 and RM36. RM36 is RB00's 2020 pup born on Kauai. In a hippo position at the back of the pond was Squinty R330.
Lastly at the end of their day they saw BG R303.
Tammy also weighed in on the Rabbit Island photo of seal or rock. She votes that its a rock. I agree...... BUT looking through the scope I have to say it was a seal, AND as far as seal rocks go this one should win the award.
Team R&B first find was at a west side location where they found two seals. RL70 Leina was in the playboy pond alone. They found RH76 Kala at seal inlet also alone.
They went to check around coming up empty so they returned to this location and now they found RW02 PvKaua in the shallows. Then there was RL08 to the left on high rocks.
On their way to do the Ka'ena West trek they stopped at yoksand saw a seal onshore. They did everything they could to ID this adult seal. They didn't see any tags and other than being newly molted they didn't have anything else to go on. The seal was reported as an U/A.
They did do the Kaena West trek and came up empty.
