Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:50 to 3:00 and there were four seals during her observations.
The first thing she noticed today was the Sooty Terns have landed. They had been flying around and screeching for several days, but today they landed in masses. She also noticed the Brown Noddy Terns have also landed, which makes Rabbit Island a very busy and noisy place.
When Marilyn first started viewing there were three seals on island, two near the 1BS and a third at SRI. At about 1:50 she noticed another seal had hauled out near the 1BS.
The 1BS seals were:
Adult Male: adult size, dark coat and dark male belly and possibly two red tags.
Nearby was an Unknown Adult: adult size, lighter gray belly and two red tags. Marilyn is reasonable sure this is the same U/A as yesterday.
About 1:50 a Juvenile Male hauled out to the right of the UA. J/M: juvenile to small subadult size, light gray male belly and two red tags.
At SRI was RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno: subadult to adult size, light male belly, two red tags, scar on lower left lip and scar on right side towards rear flippers.
Team R&B first critters of the day were whales and dolphins. The whales were being followed by three boats. The dolphins were to the right having a good time. Although there were no seals, this very much delighted them.
Next stop they had better luck. There were two seals resting on therocks. One was RL08 and other was R3CX Nalu.
They headed over to the bay and found RH76 Kala. She was alone snoozing on the rocks. Earlier they had been two women very close to her, but a friend of theirs asked them to move. They did move along with some attitude Kala is looking great, and at a healthy weight. .
They also found RQ24 Mauna was seen on the rocks in a different location. There was no one around to bug him which is good. He is a cute little guy and clearly very independent.
The area got so dark, there was a storm passing Kauai side.
