Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:55 to 3:50 and there five seals all on LPB today.
On the Lanikai side of LPB were the HMS Mom MO7 and her pup PO7. The pup was nursing when Marilyn first arrived. Then the pup moved around to the other side of mom where it slept for the rest of Marilyn's viewing session. MO7 is a large adult female with at least one red tag (probably two).
In the middle of LPB was a J/F: juvenile to subadult size, yellowish tan female belly and two red tags.Marilyn doesn't think this is the same seal that has been there the past few days. The J/F was smaller and with a more tannish-yellow female belly than the subadult female from the previous days.
Closer to IBS on LPB was HMS Mom MO6 and her pup PO6. MO6 is smaller than MO7; MO6 has a dark female belly and two red tags. PO6 seems active and strong. In discussion with Barbara, they are relatively sure MO6 is RH76 Kala based on her darker belly and a left side face scar.
Team R&B started their morning checking a west side location and on the rocks they found Puka RP30. He was very dry and it appears he had stayed over night.
They did one more check later in the day and Puka was still there. But this time there was another seal on lower rocks. There was R3CX Nalu resting peacefully. Its nice to have him back from his Ka'ena Point adventures. He looks to be in good condition, no new markers or fishing lines to report.
They saw the NOAA ship from afar, pretty cool.
At their second stop they initially didn't see anything. They studied the area for a long time, but theyleft. When they returned for a recheck, they saw RL08 up on the rocks. He was alone and resting. The beaches were so packed today, they decided to leave and keep the seal's spot safe.
Team R&B didn't see anything when they arrived at their last stop. They studied the water where there was a huge school of fish. Then they spotted a green seal foraging alone. Lucky they got a glimpse of the tag and it was RL20 Kalua. They were happy to see him again, since its been a while.
