06/09/2022 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Team T&D and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island today from 11:45 to 1:05 and there were five seals on island ( two moms, two pups and a subadult female.

On the Lanikai side of LPB were MO7 with her pup PO7. Marilyn observed two separate nursing sessions and the pup ventured closer to the water by itself, but did not go in. Mom kept a close eye on PO7, sounds like this 2 day old is going to be a flipper full. M)7 is a large adult female with an older coat, a tan brown female belly.

Closer to the 1BS on  LPB was MO6 and her pup PO6 estimated to be 3 days old.  Marilyn was please
to see much more activity from both MO6 and PO6. The waves kept washing over them and they finally did a short swim session, during which Marilyn could see open mouths indicating communication between the two. MO6 has a darker gray female belly and two red tags. Mom and pup did several trips up and down the slope. PO6 seems very active, which I will attest two after watching it climb the rocks on day two.

The two Mom and pup pairs are about 100 feet from each other. It seems inevitable that at some point they will come together.  Its probably a good thing they are only one day apart should there be a switch in moms at some point.

On the rock flats ocean side of SRI was a lone Subadult Female: subadult to adult size, light greenish female belly with two tags. Marilyn thinks it the same DF she saw yesterday, and I think its the same one I saw earlier in the week.

Team T&D hiked Ka'ena today and was busy with an 8 seal day. Their first find was Lina RL98 on some flats. Across the cove from her was Kami RL74 on the flats as well.  Before today they had never seen seals at either of these spots.  And once again the seals prove, never say never.

Next find was BG303 on a small beach. As they were walking out to the point they spotted a head
bobbing along and it was R3CX Nalu. He did a quick swim thru and that was it they did not see him again.
When they got to the point they found Squinty R330, he was pretty alert trying to get comfortable.
They saw a head bobbing in the outer pool, this seal made a quick check of the point and headed for Squinty's location. Turns out it was RH32 Kaale, he came out strong, but Squinty proved to be the dominant male. Some barking and Squinty chased Kaale back into the water, then they were both gone in a flash.
On their walk back they found Ka'ena RO40 hauled out. He has not been there earlier.
Lastly they stopped to check on Mauna RQ24.

Team R&B started out early morning and found KG54 by herself on the rocks snoozing.
About 30 minutes later they saw RL08 rolling in. He sneezed to alert KG54, but all she did was look, stretch and went back to sleep. RL08 galumphed to the right of her and stayed for the day.

At another west side location, they were shocked and thrilled to find
two seals on the rocks. Then the two took a dip into the small pond to cool off.  There was little Puka RP30 and the beautiful RH48 Lei Ola. Very cool to find these two hanging out on the rocks together.

Lastly they spotted a male from afar. They saw that someone was going up to it and then stopped (yea).
The seal was RN14 Kalani on shore.
