Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 3:05 to 4:35 and there were two seals on island today. Both seals were reported as Unidentified/Unknown.
Behind the waterfront rocks down from the 3BS was U/U#1 - unknown size, light yellow ventral side, possible CC scar at rear base of LFF; unsure about gender or tags.
At about 3:25 Marilyn became aware of a seal in a cave-like area beyond the Makapuu side of RRB. She is not sure she has ever seen a seal in that part of the island before. U/U#2 - probably subadult to adult size, lighter ventral surface, not sure about gender or tags. The seal moved behind some other rocks and Marilyn was able to see it at all.
As a side note Marilyn sent a link to KHON2 news story about N2.
( I would like to thank Posse pal Justin and Christine T. for first alerting NOAA of N2 last Saturday. He got the ball rolling.)
They walked about looking for the little Kaulapapa seal, and he wasn't anywhere. Being disappoint they went and sat on the rocks, and lo and behold there was RP84 Pe'ekai on the waterfront rocks.
Then they spotted RH76 Kala coming in, but she turned and left the area. They had never seen her do that before. But she didn't leave, she galumphed in a rock formation, as fat as she is she made her way up. Smart girl getting herself up there and away from the boys.
Heading out to check other areas, they spotted a seal on the rocks from afar, that they did not recognize. They walked over and found two seals. There was RK72 Kekoa Alii and RL20 Kalua. They don't remember him ever being there. He has a gash on his lower chin, another scar on its way.
Team R&B had to run some personal errands today, so they weren't able to look for many seals. But they did go check out one of the beaches after they heard a seal hauled out. When they were finally able to get there new posse pal and much appreciated Amy was there on site. She pointed them to the seal near the rocks and ID'd RH32 Kaale. Amy stayed with Kaale in the hot sun for hours. THANK YOU Amy!
