Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12 noon to 1:45 pm and there were six seals on island today.
Between 1BS and 2BS was Marilyn believes was Temp 400: larger juvenile, light female belly, no tags, pit scar just right of mid-dorsal. She may have a partial CC scar on her upper mid chest, and a small scar under the right eye.
At the 3BS side of middle cliffs was a S/M - subadult to adult size, light yellow male belly and two tags.
RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno - subadult size, yellowish male belly, two tags, small scar on right side about 1/3 forward from rear flippers.
S/F - subadult to adult size, yellow-brown female belly, two tags. No NB on lower left side so its not RK37.
A/M 1 - subadult to adult size, mottled grayish-yellow belly, two tags.
A/M 2 - large adult size, about 70% molted, light gray male belly, did not see tags.
THANKFULLY no humans during Marilyn's observations.
Team R&B was out and the west side waves were pounding all day. They didn't find any seals on their early morning check.
Finally they found RG28 Lefty way up on shore being slammed over and over. He would bark as if he was angry at the waves for pushing him around. He galumphed while grumbling over to the bushes for shelter.
Today Melina was out and helped educate the folks that were out. The surf is so dangerous water is still brown, they were advising people to stay out of the water with dangerous conditions.
While standing on shore with tourist a big wave came in pushingsand, rocks and quickly hitting them. They all ran back out of the way, a little unexpected excitement. Then there was that one guy, who read the signs. Team R&B asked for them to stay behind the signs for safety reasons. He responded with " Hmm funny I don't see anything on the signs that say stay behind the signs." They let him know the sign tells them not to approach the seal. The man and his family began walking out, when a big Kahuna wave came in. That was enough and the family left.
Team R&B left about noontime and Melina stayed to watch over Lefty. It was nice to have Melina help out, especially someone with her experience.
Team R&B did not find any other seals today.
