Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:05 to 2:50 and there were five seals on island today.
They were all by the 3BS, first starting with the closest to the furthest.
S/F - subadult to adult size, newer coat, yellow female belly and two tags. (No nb on lower left side.)
A/M 1 - subadult to adult size, newer coat, yellow male belly and two tags. This may be the seal that was subadult male from yesterday.
A/M 2 - subadult to adult size, molted yellow-gray male belly and two tags.
U/A - adult size, unknown gender or tags. Marilyn doesn't think this is the molting male. This seal did not change position during her observation.
Several times there were large groups of Sooty Terns taking flight and zooming around. There didn't seem to be anything that triggered their behavior.
Team R&B had gone out searching and same situation as the past few days no seals. They headed over to see if Lefty RG28 was still around. When they got there he was on shore and was told he had just arrived.
Lefty was alone, but while scanning the ocean they spotted another seal coming in fast. The seal looked like a periscope looking around, then hauling out with RG28. It was R407 Kawika who went to greet RG28. The tourist were thrilled to see the two seals on shore, there excitement was like a group of kids.
Then R407 Kawika left and RG28 followed. The two played in the water for over an hour. R407 hauled out again and Lefty followed. Both went higher up on shore now that the waves were huge. The two boys settled down for their naps.
Team R&B stayed until noontime, then Dana arrived with Amy. It was much appreciated.
