01/12/2022 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought you by Team T&D, Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 2:25 and there were three seals during her observation.
Near the inlet on the Lanikai side of LPB was A/M 1 - adult size, newer coat, yellow male belly and two tags.
On waterfront rocks next to SRI was A/M 2 - adult size, newer coat, gray male belly with darker chest, unsure about tags. It doesn't appear to be the male that has been molting lately.
Behind the waterfront rocks on the back of SRI was an U/U - juvenile to subadult size, yellowish ventral area; unknown gender or tags. Marilyn only saw this critter move once to rub its LFF on its mouth.
( Late email indicates there may be a natural bleach on LFF, which would make this P01/RP24 Mohala who was Pua's 2021 pup born on 3/20/21.)

Team T&D hiked out to the point today with Lesley. The waves are still huge and the crowds have
lessened. Their first sighting was Squinty R330, who seems to have made this his home.
Then they had a big surprise. There is a new kid on Oahu, RKA2. She was born on Kauai in 2018 to the late RK30. She is a little seal, as they wouldn't have guessed a 2018 pup.
Lastly a seal hauled out on the other beach while they were document RKA2.  Turns out it was RJ40 E'ena from Molokai.  So where did all the Oahu critters go?

Team R&B was out searching and arrived where all the action has been, and was told a seal had just arrived. They ID'd RH32 Kaale looking very healthy, no hooks, lines or new wounds were seen.
Then the 2nd seal cautiously hauls into the same area, looks and sees Kaale. R407 Kawika approaches Kaale who was asleep. He wakes up, the two touch noses, sniff out each other and settled in and went to sleep.

While Team R&B were keeping people back and educating them, another seal is spotted.  The seal galumphs in to the left of the boys. It was Aukai RL12 who makes her way all the way up. She kept her distance from the boys who were still sleeping. She was in stealth mode, didn't make a sound, which is amazing considering how large she is.

Team R&B left the site and within five minutes they got a call there was another seal. This seal hauled out by Aukai which could mean trouble. They rushed back and there were lots of people gathered around for a wedding.
Amy was on site and the newly arrived seal was RN14 Kalani. He started to bug Aukai for a short time and then galumphed over to his bosom buddies. Kalani stayed with Kaale and R407 on one side and all left Aukai alone. Quite amazing.
