12/28/2021 Tuesday Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team R&B๐Ÿ’•   Diane & I took a ride to the west side and met up with Team R&B. It was wonderful to see them as it has been quite a while.  We were also very fortunate to see four seals with them. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw four seals.

Team R&B started early and initially didn't find any critters. They got to the outfall and there were two seals foraging outside the outfall, and both were coming their way. The first seal they ID'd R3CX Nalu and next to him playing was R407 Kawika. They were rolling about together, holding each other like kids. It was a dance of the two males.
At times they barked and snorted at each other, maybe they were planning on where to find a female. LOL. They watched them for over an hour wondering which way they were going to go, but the boys didn't leave they just kept playing.  Team R&B left the site.

Team R&B headed out to another west side location and there were two seals in a small zone set up with one of the signs right next to the seal. It was RN14 Kalani and RG28 Lefty hanging out peacefully.  They fixed the signs and ropes and guided folks who needed to get to the other side, to safely pass the two boys on shore.  While watching these two boys, a woman came over and informed them of two more seals further down.
That is when Diane and I arrived, and we went to check it out.  As we approached the area, there were only two signs and a rope on the ground. We moved the signs and rolled the rope up from the ground.
It was RH32 Kaale and RL12 Aukai.  A few folks were educated and explained to keep their distance. People were pretty good about staying back.
A volunteer arrived,  he was filled in on who the seals were and about the other two. We asked if he had any additional signs put up, he did not.  Luckily we found another sign tucked away, so we placed the sign in front of the seals by the entrance letting people know to walk around. We did not put up the ropes since the seals were left unattended.

After leaving the site, we had lunch. Team R&B went off to find more seals and Diane and I headed back to the windward site.
Team R&B happened to see a seal moving from a distance. The seal was leaving and they managed to zoom in and get a couple of photos. It's unclear who the seal was, there may have been an applied bleach but they just couldn't make an ID.
