Seems Team R&B spent a lot of time searching for seals, coming up empty. Finally they found a seal trying to haul up on the rocks at Kahe. The tide was still high and the seal left heading for tracks.
It was RN14 Kalani who had been trying to haul out on the rocks and then hauled out at tracks. He got on shore, then suddenly left, hauled out a second time and left again.
Then they saw Nalu R3CX haul out at tracks lot, and there were too many people. Team R&B called the hotline, and was informed there wouldn't be a volunteer. Too bad because all the people hanging around were bothersome enough, that he left.
While they were at the outfall they saw two seals playing about. They were able to ID Lefty by hisnewly applied N29 bleach (yeah!) The other seal they were not sure so it was reported as an unknown/unidentified. (could have been R3CX)
Last stop for Team R&B at a west side location where they found RW02 PvKauai. Its been about a year since he was seen at this location. He is looking really good, healthy, good girth and a nice new coat.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:00 to 12:45, there were six seals on island today.
In a group of three near the 1BS were:
U/S: smaller subadult size, unsure of gender, tags.
A/M#1: adult size, newer coat, silverish gray male belly, unsure about tags.
A/F: adult size, yellowish female belly and two tags.
S/F: subadult size, yellowish female belly and two tags.
A/M#2: adult size, old coat, brown male belly, no tags seen. This seal may have some sort of scar/wound on its right nostril. (Marilyn noticed the same thing on this seal on 12/22).
Slightly Makapuu side of the 3BS was:
J/M: juvenile size (probably a 2020 pup) very light male belly, no tags. Marilyn thinks this is the same JM she reported on 12/22.
