12/09/2021 Thursday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team T&D and Team R&B💕

Team T&D met up with Lesley today and hiked Ka'ena Point. There was lots of mud, big puddles, brown water and road damage from the rains.  They saw the Glaucous Winged Gull taking a rest on the beach.
Their first seal was Ka'ena RO40 with his beautiful new coat.
Next was R330 Squinty being cooperative by flipping his rear flippers showing off his natural bleach on the inside of his RRF.
On the other side of the point was a Molokai seal party. There were three seals together all born on Molokai. Interesting they all hanging out together. In the middle was RN14, RJ40 and RL74.
Their last find on the walk back they found BG303.

Team R&B started their morning a little later than usual (they claim they were being lazy). Their first
sighting was R407 Kawika hauled out on shore right in front of the homeless camp.
They were also treated to some cows up in the mountain side. (they didn't wait for them to go home :-)

Next stop they headed over to the outfall where they saw two seals.  Both were outside the outfall and Team R&B spent a lot of time watching to get their IDs.
First they ID'd RH32 Kaale and the other seal was R3CX Nalu.
They only saw Nalu take off and eventually haul out at EB.  They went over to find him galumphing higher and higher up. He rolled about and got very sandy and settled in. He appeared to be safe so they headed out.
They kept watching to see if anyone would bother him. It appeared everyone was being god until one guy walked over with his go pro out. Team R&B hurried back to the area and found a lady with the guy right in front of R3CX (about 3 feet away). Team R&B did their best to get the couples attention but they kept getting closer to R3CX. Finally Team R&B got close enough to yell out to them, while the woman was squatting in front of the seals face.
Team R&B while being upset, still took the time to educate the folks about the seals. They called the hotline to report.
After Kaale RH32 left the outfall they found him hauled out nearby on the rocks. He was settled in resting and thankfully not being disturbed.

The find of the day for them were two seals. There was Mom and Son again!
RL42 Leia was on a flatter area making it more comfortable. She was sleeping.  To her right was RM31 Kai, snoozing on the rocks. He tried to change positions, tossing his hind flippers in the air. Poor kid just couldn't move off the rocks he was on.
