It was an intense week out here, so I had to again stick to a weekly blog report. With the load of work, reports, and the individual seal reports, I was compromising family time from late afternoon into the evenings.
We have some good news to share this week. In the HMSeal world the best news is that RL74 Kami has finally tossed the Ulua hook that was in the left corner of her mouth. She was first reported with the hook by a fisherman on 06/02/2021. That was 7 long months watching the eye of the hook popping out of her mouth, during that period she molted and put weight back on. A couple of days before she tossed the hook, it's shaft was sticking out that meant the hook had moved.
The molting seals were R303 BG who finished her molt 2 days ago and looks beautiful. RO40 Ka'ena is 50% molted, slowly but surely getting there.
Other seals up and down the park were RN58 Luana, RW02 PVKauai, KG54 Huaka'i, RL98 Lina and R330 Squinty
The visiting Glaucous-winged Gull is still here.
The WTSH chicks are fledging but we still have MANY around
The LAAL nest (nest means with egg) count on Monday was 54 and yesterday 70 !! We are in for another record year
We can already see the difference in the vegetation with the first rains we had and the downpours the last couple of days.
Yesterday and today, I was soaked to the bone.
More soon
