Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from about 12:40 to 2:15 and there were five seals on island today.
Near the 1BS were three seals:
A/F - adult size, newer coat, yellowish female belly, two tags and a small dark pigment patch on the upper left chest area.
A/M#1 - adult size, gray male belly, newer coat and at least one tag on RRF.
J/F - larger juvenile size, light female belly, no tags. There may be at least one pit scar in the mid-dorsal area. This seal may be Temp 400.
Near the 3BS:
A/M#2 - large adult size, old coat, brown belly and no visible tags. He could be ready to molt soon, only time will tell.
RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno - subadult size, light male belly, two tags and a pit scar on right side.
Team R&B got a frantic call from a good friend who informed them of three seals on shore. They passed by all the usual spots and hurried out to meet up with their friend.
Upon arrival they could hear the seals barking and snorting. There were tourist lined up in excitement for what was happening in front of them. Their friend had put out some signs and ropes before they had arrived. Auntie was so excited to see the seals and upset that some of the tourist were getting to close.
Aukai RL12 was being chased after by RN14, and RG28. At first they were fine in the zone, but then started fighting and ended up on the rocks.
RG28 Lefty scrambled all the way around to make his way to Aukai. Meantime Aukai was a ninja fighting back the boys. Aukai entered the water, pooping all the way. The boys followed her, Team R&B were concerned if this would turn into a mobbing situation.
The interactions were intense, Aukai then decided to haul back out getting out of the water, and all the boys followed, panting.
Aukai started towards all the tourist to get away from the boys. Of course they all followed close behind. Team R&B moved the signs and ropes a few times, as the seals kept moving up by the greenery. Finally they decided to take down the ropes and just put the signs up. They called the hotline twice, as they counted over 100+ folks that had passed through over the three hours they were out there.
Next they see RH32 Kaale coming in like a torpedo. He and his bosom buddy really got into it. Kaale was biting RN14 neck area.
Finally four volunteers arrived. Team R&B filled them in on who the seals were and how dangerous it was for any people to get close to them. After sharing everything that happened they left the area. All four seals remained and were now resting like nothing happened.
After leaving they followed up on a call from earlier. They arrived at 12:30 to find RH92 Nalani resting on shore. Her tags and the marks on her head and flipper were visible. She is looking very healthy and quite plump.
