Posse pal Larry sent more photos of Benny boy looking more like a mutant ninja. To put it simply he is a mess. Larry mentioned he was on the smaller beach this morning and then moved over to the main beach by 10 am and was there at 3:30 when they had to leave.
Team Billand also found Da Benny this morning on the west-side, it took them a couple spots but they finally found him. He was sleeping where he usually goes when in the area, behind a bush and near some of the homes on the beach. Team Billand did notice some foot and paw prints but Benny was just fine. It appears his molt is about 60% early morning, but once he goes for a swim, that will change.
Just before 11 this morning Team Billand arrived at plains and found Pohaku RO28 sleeping in a zone with no ropes just signs. Waves were hitting her, but she just layed there. She is looking a little thin, but seems to be okay.
Team Billand did their usual route of checking seals and Pohaku and Benny were the only two.
Posse pal Vicki was up on the north shore today and she came across little RK80 "Katie" alone snoozing. Vicki also found this sign in memory of our beloved Nanea. It still hard to accept this has happened and I know there are a lot of people, especially those who spent hours and hours with her are still feeling the loss. We never forget the ones we love, and we continue to fight the fight and walk the walk for all of them.
Melody was also on the north shore today with HMSPO volunteer Diana. They were going to do a routine check since it had been a while. They also came across K80 hauled out and snoozing. They were told that Holokai had been there too, but had just left. They stayed for a bit and as folks came by they talked about monk seals with them. It was very hot and humid so they didn't hang around too long.
