8-21-2013 Team Billand and Ko'Olina Diane

I had a couple of technical hiccups this evening.... so I am going to post the pictures and not even try to label them.... I will trust Barbara will take care of that in the comments section....
WHAT is important... the photos of the NOAA/NMFS/PIFSC team is a professional group who are authorized to handle and care for the endangered Hawaiian monk seals. They are under a federal permit 932-1905.  Today the guys were fitting a male seal "Rip" with a critter cam that will record his travels.

 Rip's new bling
And one dude ready for some film making !!
Haupu ... thank you Ko'olina Diane

and life was peaceful before the men with beards showed up!

I was very lucky to be there yesterday and I still have chills. It was so scary, amazing, thrilling, neat, etc. I just can't tell you what an honor it was to see them at work. Such great people and so gentle to our Rip. He didn't think so, but they were very thorough and just all around awesome! I have pictures, but haven't had time to look at them.

Thanks for the input Laurie.... It is amazing how well the Team knows how to handle these big guys... It also gives you an idea of how fast the seals can move if they want to... Don't let that lazy demeanor fool ya!
