8-20-2013 DB's Dailies: Kea@AD, Kolohe@RI, Buster@SB, Pohaku@PC, R5AY@Hauula, M&M,Benny@KCG, U'ilani&Kekoa@RR, Haupu@Banyans

At 0600 we found Kea (RN46) lolling in his favorite nook, 300 yds east of the AD Wall. He was still there when I departed at 0700. According to the log he spent the day cruisin’ the near shore waters between his starting point, and the flats 200 ft east of the wall. He hauled out at 1405 to the sand at the 200 ft mark, and snoozed away my late shift. Some of yesterday’s goop remains on his right side whiskers, and I saw a piece of light gauge line, 4-5 inches on the left side of his mouth, however after a flipper in the mouth cleaning I did not see it again. I’ll check again in the morning of course.

At 0747 I found Kolohe (RW22) on the water front rocks of Rocky Right Beach, Rabbit Island.

Dera called at 1006 with the report of an animal at Sandy Beach. When I arrived at 1011 I found Buster (RV08) at the east end of the beach. I cordoned him off and he has remained the rest of the day. Gayle reported his departure at 1721.

At 0622 Team Billand reported Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove.

Dera checked in at 0846 with the report of R5AY on the beach in Hauula. The R5AY day got more interesting when a call from Diane Pike came at 1355. A friend had emailed her that her husband at the Hauula Fire Station thought that R5AY might be giving birth. It turned out that one of the guys had seen her stomach moving. That was the end of that.

At 0900 the Billands found M&M (R020) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds. Witnesses reported that Benny had been with her until 0700.

The Billands filled in for Donna on the Reef Runway check today. They found U’ilani at 1044, and Kekoa (RK72) at 1059.

At 1206 the Billands called to say that a posse member had reported an animal at Banyan Tree Beach. At 1507 they confirmed the Haupu (RB24) ID.

Ocean Safety called at 1555 with the report of an animal at 2E in Waikiki. I got the phone calls started but thankfully at 1557 OS call again to advise that the animal had left. Rocky or Irma are at the top of my list but ???????????
I found a Stephanie&Wayne Batzer video on YouTube this morning, from their dive off Niihau. They are long time posse people (and Whale Watchers) The verrrrrrrry last seal you see in the video is none other than our boy Kermit!!!
