A brief note on the pup's name. I've been made aware that exact spelling is critical. My source is John R.K. Clark's book, "Place Names of Hawaii", pg. 145. He is the authority on surf spots and beach names in Hawaii, and I worship his expertise. He personally responsible for giving the name Ka 'Iwi to the conservation area, as excepted by the board in 1988. Any other spelling other that Ka 'Iwi, may well mean something totally different. Thank you for the info DB... I will make sure when I refer to the pup I use the intended name.
On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0740 I found Duke (RA12), and Kolohe (RW22) to the right of Seal Rock Inlet. When I got back to Makai Pier at 1417 only Kolohe was visible.
Team Billand didn't find any critters today, but did collect spew from RI37's location yesterday. They also heard from posse member Eileen on the Reef Runway reporting that Kekoa was a no show today, but Ewa Girl was there, and has begun her molt.
Word was received last night the R5AY and La'akea had moved in a Kahuku direction. This was confirmed by Lesley on her shift up there today.
Dana also reported another animal on the beach up there, said to be Right Spot. Debi sent confirmation photos of Right Spot. Thank You......very much !
