Our thanks to the caller, Kathy from Omaha. Before we got there, she kept folks from getting in too close. Thanks Kathy of Omaha, you the best.
As for Miss I37, she was cute as usual, but in a funny restless mood, growling some, opening her mouth wide then shutting it, and opening it again. I never saw her act like that. She would go down, move up, down and up again.
This spot is known for seal haul outs this year, more than ever. And it poses a problem as the beach is little. And all the folks always, ALWAYS have to get to the other side and come back. Which means, they walk a few feet from the head of the animal. Today we just blocked it off...Period. She was next to the greenery. And we certainly didnt want folks to pass behind her, she may get startled. I sure wish the management of the resort could open a small PATHWAY, up in the NOPAKA area. Then folks can get to the other side, with no problem. Just a temporary section with ropes to follow..that would be sensational, safe for seal to rest comfortably, safe for the folks to pass in peace. SIMPLE. But, no one does any thing. So the seal gets disturbed, not a good rest, and the folks keep passing. NOAA??? Can you help us with this????? I hope so.
Where is Max?
We dont know where Max went to. We been looking every single day since he disappeared and my heart aches with such worry. The last time we saw him was Aug 9th and he wasnt looking good at all. He was just floating and looked quite swollen around the eyes, his neck and but area. He was floating from 8:00am to after 8pm in the same area of Nimitz. I cry every single day, looking at his photos, searching every rocky point, Swq, Iroquios, Leeward spots, East side, just every where and no luck. No one else reports his abouts either. I am sick worrying. Please If any one sees Max R5EW let us know right away. He was always a worry from day one at Nanakuli, seemed different than all the other seals, like struggling, been attacked by dogs many times. Been run off many times, harrassed by people, touched, pulled at. So max was a seal we kept close tabs on, but, one day, he left or heaven forbid, died. I miss him with my soul..I pray he shows up, molted and healthy!!!!!!!
