The Rabbit Island cast for today was Kolohe (RW22), and Duke (RA12) on the right side of Seal Rock Inlet, and Nani at 3BS.
Dana called at 1340 to advise of an animal at Magic Island. Colleen was going to MI to ID the animal but was called back when Dana advised us that the animal had departed. My dollar is, of course, on Rocky, but ?????
Apparently, there is one last word on the AD pup's name. Volunteer Ann Egleston contacted Puakea Nogelmeier, a Hawaiian language expert. According to him Ka 'Iwi is just fine for a shoreline conservation park, but as a name it should be Kaiwi. I give up already. The name game is getting to be too big pain.
Reef Runway posse member Eileen reported EG (RS00, 1AO)& Kekoa at the birth beach at 1402.
Volunteer Caryn, on duty at the Irma site, called at 1820 to advise that Benny had arrived. When we got there Benny was in the shallows, with Mom and pup on the beach. Benny slunk around, maintaining a 15-20 ft separation, and Irma barked several times, but the boy would not leave. It was a stalemate when darkness descended.
Early morning swim session
Little rest between swims
Little Nani hanging out
and here comes bad boy Benny
Irma putting him in his place
and then some....
He's relentless
