9-23-11 DB Dailies

When we arrived at 0545 the Dawn Patrol found Irma & Kaiwi snoozin' on the beach. Marilyn was in the parking lot, and I was at Hanauma Bay, when Lesley called to report that Irma had just departed at 0705, barking a good bye and leaving Kaiwi in their tide pool. Kaiwi was in the tide pool and ranging outside the pool as well when I got back. She hauled out just to the west of the tide pool at 0952.

Lesley got video of Irma's departure. Kaiwi is in the tide pool and Irma is barking her goodbyes on the outside.

At 0622 I found Ewa Girl (RS00), on her left side rock flats property at Hanauma Bay.  On my 0723, Spitting Cave check I found Buster (RV08) doing 9 minute dives  On my 0753, Rabbit Island check I found Duke (RA12), at the left end of the beach, and the U/F to the right of 3BS.

Team Billand checked in at 0840 to report Kermit (R4DG) fronting #1813 , at NIM. At 1415 they checked in again to advise that NOAA personnel had just finished giving Kekoa is transmitter, at the Reef Runway.

Kermit was at Nimitz Pavilions all day long.
We had to do Kekoa Duty, find him for NOAA team to do procedures.
Rob found Kekoa Alii at another gate, snoozing all alone in the hot sun. He looked so peaceful, sweet and innocent. He began getting wet with the tide rising, started moving and we thought he was gonna leave.
NOAA team, Dr. Littnan, Dr. Greg, Dera Look, Mr. Schofield and Mark Sullivan arrived at 12:40pm. A plan was discussed, NOAA Team began the capture of Kekoa Alii at 1:03pm. It was fast, Kekoa was good, a little grumpy, but NOAA did their work taking samples etc. Then the last thing was the transmitter was put on and by 1:38pm Procedure was done. 1:40pm Kekoa Alii was now another monk seal on the maps with his bling. He didnt move at first, then he slowly moved to the waters edge, turned to look at the NOAA team, then gently entered the water and was gone from us forever. We are no longer to monitor the happenings of Kekoa Alii...he is being tracked instead.

For Rob and I we will truly miss the action at Reef Run Way with Kekoa and the other maginicent seals that went to the area. It was fun observing little Kekoa since June to now. I dont know what we will do on Tuesdays. I feel sad..and we will miss our talks and classes with that AWESOME Security guard, Eileen Ramos, she became a good friend to us we adore her. And to our handsome Kekoa Alii, who was named after Eileen's grandson, oh how he'll be missed. He was so sweet and so adorable. We worry about the debri out there, hope he dont get stuck in any of it.
So long Eileen, Richard and Bobby at Reef Runway...you guys are awesome and thanks for everything.
Kekoa Alii, take care, maybe one day we will meet you at a beach in the future...LOVE YOU.
I did some sand art with a knife while observing Kermit...it will all disappear with high tide....Soon Kermie will find ... IRma...and seems so green, another molting to come soon...
