10-15-2013 DB's Dailies: Irma@MB, Kea@BH, Kolohe,T21M&UU@RI, Kermit,M&M@WP, Rocky@NIM, Luana@Mokuleia, KC@Kauai

At 0600 I found an 80% molted Irma (R010) at Makapuu Beach. I redid the cordon. She would depart at 1118, but return to the far right end of the beach at 1503.

At 0640 I found Buster (RV08) doing 8 minute dives. I saw 2 ups and then he disappeared. I did not see him again today.

On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0755, I could barely see an U/U with an older coat and visible algae below the eyes. Based on the look and the location I believe that it was probably either Aukai or Kaiwi, but since the animal was gone when I returned ??????????? Maybe tomorrow.

At 1118 posse member Diane Tekai called with the report of Kea (RN46) doing dives off Blowhole Lookout. She reported Kea’s apparent departure to the east at 1151. I waited for him (and listened to the Red Sox........go Sox !!) At Crappy Cove. He never showed. I did recheck of Blowhole at 1525 and Kea was still there doing 5 minute dives.

On my 1144 RI check I found Kolohe (RW22) at Seal Rock Inlet.

At 1209 a new arrival hauled out to join him. The interaction was mellow, and both entered the water at 1211. On multiple occasions in that short period I’m reasonably sure that I saw T21M’s prominent natural bleach over the right eye. He may well have a new coat on.

Team Billand called at 0655 with the report of Kermit (R012) & M&M (R020) together fronting #1706, White Plains.

At 1550 they reported Rocky (RH58) once again at Nimitz Cove.

At 1424 Diane Gabriel called to advise that she was Luana (RN58), and that Luana was leading her beyond the KP parking lot.

Dana forwarded shots of yesterday’s Crozier Dr, Waialua animal , from Trish Coder. They confirm the Haupu (RB24) ID.

Email from Val Bloy on Kauai brought the wonderful news that she met a molting KC (RK28) today on Kauai. KC was last reported at Kualoa on 7-6-13. Thanks Val, Ya’ Done Good !!!

The orange bucket was bothering kermit all morning. We tried to get it as it finally floated away from Kermit. I spent one hour waiting as, I am not a good swimmer, to get the stupid bucket. Another lady tried also, but we were afraid of the waves that sucks you under.

I saw our friend, an older surfer around the beach..I approached him as he came towards me to see the seals. I asked if he could do me a favor and get the DAM BUCKET. Sure, I'll get it for ya, and he did. Bless his heart...THANKS, I was grateful.

Kids play with plastics every day and we have to pull them out of the ocean so the critters dont play with it. The bucket was at Kermits head, his back, near his face, until, the waves took it away from him.

Thanks Jean, appreciate you keeping the critters safe again. We had another beach to go to and check for seals.
