10-17-2013 DB's Dailies: Irma@MB, Kolohe&UU@RI, Kea@SB, Kermit@WP, Haupu@Waialua, Ewa Girl&Buster@RR, Luana@Mokuleia, Rocky@NIM, T21M@MCBH, Right Spot@Mokes, UU@Blowhole, UU2Makapuu Tide Pools

At 0600 I found Irma (R010) once again at Makapuu Beach. Her molt is 95%. I cordoned her off, and she remained until 1330.

At 0753 I found Kolohe (RW22) at the far left end of Rabbit Island, and an U/U juvenile, with 2 red tags, initially in the early morning shadows of Rocky Right Beach and on later visits only barely visible behind the water front rocks, and then gone. My guess...Aukai or Kaiwi but ???????

Melanie, Diane Gabriel & myself spent a good chunk of the day on the Kea Quest with no luck. At 1316 a Hotline call reported an animal at the east end of Sandy Beach. After speaking with the caller as we stood not 25 ft away, we found Kea (RN46) in the rocks at between the sewer outfall and the inter-island cable pads at the east end of SB, at 1330. I’d just walked the beach front not 10 ft away from him and hadn’t seen him until I got to higher ground and armed with specific info, from the caller, new posse member Tim. Kea would depart at 1659.

Team Billand called at 0730 with a report of Kermit (R012) cruisin’ the White Plains to Wind Sock area. At 0840 he would finally haul out to Wind Sock.

Dana called at 0854 with the report of Haupu (RB24) at Crozier Drive, Waialua. Confirming photos from Trish & Tia received.

Team Billand reported Ewa Girl (RS00) and Buster (RV08) at separate beaches at the Reef Runway.

Lesley called with the report of a "swimming head" seen off the Hilton Hawaiian Village. No further info.

At 1416 Team Billand reported Rocky (RH58) at Nimitz Cove. He would haul out to the first bunker west of the Nimitz Jetty.

Lesley called at 1616 with Hotline info about an animal at the Makapuu tide pools. Awaiting photos.

Posse member Alan Hong called with the report of an U/U animal foraging at Blowhole, at 1630. Though I saw several ups on its 8 minute dives I was never able to get an ID. I saw a new coat, and least a right red tag, and no other info. I have no clue, but the new female RI25 can’t be ruled out. Bottom line ????????

At 1710 Karen Bryan called with info about T21M at MCBH today. ID was by tags.

At 1719 Lesley advised of Right Spot (R016) at Moku Nui today.
