10-31-2013 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi,Kainoa,Aukai,Kolohe&Duke@RI, Buster@SB, Kea@SB, M&M@WP, Rocky@Kermit's Reef, Kekoa@RR, Irma&T21M@IRQ

At 0635, from the Makapuu Overview I found Kaiwi (RK96) fronting 3BS on Rabbit Island.

When I got to Makai Pier at 0658 I found Kainoa (RN04) at 2BS. He would enter the water at 0812 but was seen my Mark Sullivan playing with Kolohe fronting 2BS later.

At 0730 Aukai hauled out to the mid Middle Cliff area.

Team Littnan were on RI from 0812 until 1000, in hopes of getting a Critter Cam on Kolohe and/or Duke. Though Kolohe would be seen off shore at play neither he nor Duke (RA12) would haul out doing the mission. Duke would haul out to Right Greenery at 1106, and Kolohe (RW22) shortly thereafter , at 1114. Sean did however manage to get an N12 bleach on Aukai, which will be of immense help.

Gayle called at 1003 with the report of an animal at the east end of Sandy Beach. When I arrived at 1018 I found Buster (RV08) . We cordoned him off and he remains.

At 1126 Lesley called with a Hotline report of a small animal trying to haul out to Eternity Beach. The adoring hordes and loose dogs made that an impossibility. When I arrived at 1138 the animal was gone. I spoke with new posse person Alan who confirmed that the animal had an N46 bleach on his back (Kea ,RN46).

At 1537 I found Kea (RN46) on his favorite water front rocks perch at Crappy Cove, Sandy Beach. I cordoned him off and he remains.

Team Billand called at 0649 with the report of M&M (R020) fronting #1707/08, White Plains.

At 0756 they reported Rocky (RH58) at Kermit’s Reef, on the west side of the Nimitz jetty.

At 1346 the Billands reported T21M at Iroquois Point.
At 1441 Barbara called to advise that Eileen had reported Kekoa (RK72) at the Reef Runway.

Team Billand called at 1630 to advise that Clay Gates had reported Irma (R010) at Iroquois Point. He said there was also another animal but it had remained off shore and did not haul out.

Trick or Treat

Wishing you all a Happy and Safe Halloween....
(I decided to dust this one off)

10-30-2013 Late Entry of Kea

Thank you Diane T for the pics of Kea.... you got some cute shots of this little guy....

10-30-2013 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi,UU,Aukai,Kolohe,Kainoa&Duke@RI, Kea@SB, Kermit@WP, Irma@WSK, T21M&Ewa Girl@RR, Right Spot@MCBH, Kaikaina@TB

On my first look at Rabbit Island, from the Makapuu Overview at 0730, I could see at least 4 and possibly 5 swimming heads all playing the waters off shore of Right Greenery on RI.

When I got to Makai Pier at 0927 I found Kaiwi (RK96) at Right Middle Cliff.

At 0937 on a pan I found a smallish animal with a new coat and 2 red tags, on the water front rocks of mid Middle Cliff. I was never able to see a ventral side, and there were no visible markers. I’m hopeful that it was Nani but ????????

At 1002 Aukai (RL12) hauled out to join Kaiwi at right Middle Cliff.

At 1013 Kolohe (RW22) hauled out to Right Greenery.

At 1017 Kainoa (RN04) & Duke (RA12) hauled out to join Kolohe.

The Kea Quest was on at sunrise and despite many a check by myself as well as Diane T and Tracy Watkins there was no Kea to be found. Diane & Tracy saw an UU at Blowhole that might have been him but the photo was inconclusive. Gayle called at 1440, just minutes into her first check and therrrrre was Kea (RN46) waiting for her at Crappy Cove. We cordoned him off and he remains.

Team Billand called at 0730 to advise that they were watching Kermit (R012) foraging off shore of Nimitz Cove. He was still doing just that when they had to leave. At 1429 they found Kermit on the east side of the White Plains east side perimeter fence.

The Billands called at 1211 to advise that Eileen had called them to report Ewa Girl (RS00) and an animal with a "GZ" tag (T21M) together at the Reef Runway.

Jen Christian called at 1254 to advise that Right Spot (R016) was still at North Beach on MCBH.

At 1546 Team Billand reported Irma (R010) west of Wind Sock.

Karen Turner found Kaikaina (RL54) at the elbow, Turtle Bay today.

10-30-2013: Waialua, Mokuleia & KPt day

Day started checking Waialua for RB24 "Hauupu", Tia on one side and I on the other. We found trails but not "Hauupu".

Then I headed out to Mokuleia. From Birth Beach I looked down the beach towards Camp Erdman and saw a seal hauled out on the beach. I hiked out and found R912 "Nihoa" and Larry Stanley, whom had also just arrived. Kimo Lyman joined us and we talked story while trying to ID the seal. Due to her molt and position it took us a long time to confirm sex and also to see the scars on her head. On my way back from KPt she was still there and her two white nails on her LFF confirmed her ID.

RN58 "Luana" had Hidden Beach all for herself. She had something on her right eye and side of her face, it seems to be sea cucumber glue. She was sleeping peacefully and scratching her face every now and then.

RL42 @ the Big Cove resting in the same place we saw her last week. She's looking so pretty in her new coat. On my way back she was no longer there.

Out at KPt the boys took over the place. First RO40 "Ka'ena" was in his pool, then RW08 "Kerby" was near the Runway, and to wrap up RW02 & RR70 "Rip" were in the Main Pool, no interaction was observed.
