Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:25 am to 1:02 pm and there were eight seals seen during that time. A NOAA team went out to the island and for some bleaches and allflex tags on some of the seals. A DOFAW team also was on the island part of the time.

On the Lanikai side of LPB was an adult male that Marilyn believes to be R416 Makali'i based on ventral scar and dark patches. Mark applied a N34 bleach on his upper left side, but he rolled over shortly after so it might not take.

In the middle LPB was MO3 and PO3. They had been swimming and did not haul out until 11:25 pm, Maril got a 3 bleach on the middle back of PO3 which should take and PO3 now has an Allflex tag 923.

He took extensive photos of MO3s rear flippers and didn't see tags. Tracy has reviewed thee photos and couldn't ID MO3. Mystery Mom!

Almost directly down from the 3BS was RK38 Hali'a and her pup PO4. Mark for a 4 bleach on the pups's back, but he's not sure if it took. PO4 also got an Allflex tag 930.

RF34 Pu and PO5 were between the 3BS and SRI mostly among the waterfront rocks. They did a lengthy swim. PO5 had previously gotten

a 5 bleach on its left side and it was visible today. Mark had hoped to get an Allflex tag on PO5, but momma Pua did not allow it.

On RRB was RS12 Hoku (who is Sadie's 2023 female RI pup). She's sub-adult size with a yellow female belly. She moved into the RRB channel soon afterr the NOAA team arrived.

Team R&B started on the west side and were happy to find Miss Kala RH76. She was snoozing on the waterfront rocks alone.  They had an appointment so they couldn't stay long.

Their appointment went later than they thought, but they managed to make it to plains.  When they
arrived there were two seals still on shore.

On the left side RL12 Aukai, getting slammed by the high tide. She didn't move, maybe it felt like a massage to the pregnant lady.

Near the showers was their little cutie RT06. He was enjoying his siesta.

August 23, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:15 to 2:45 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.

Out on the Lanikai side of LPB was R416 Makali'i. He is subadult to adult size, older coat. lots of distinctive markings on his male ventral and N10 applied bleach.

Near 1BS were three seals together:

RT90 Manapua: large weaner size, chubby and light colored male belly and two red tags.

Subadult Female: subadult size, maybe molting with light female belly and two red tags. It is possible this may be RS12 who has been going through her gradual juvenile molt.

RP24 Mohala: subadult size, new coat, light gray female belly, two red tags and nb on the tip of her LFF.

Initially about 30 feet Makapuu side of the other three seals and near the waterline was weaner RT19. He later moved closer to the other

three seals and up the beach.

About 2:05 pm RT90 entered the water and RP24 followed him into the water a short time later. Marilyn saw them playing offshore.

At about 2:30 Marilyn noticed the SF and RT19 had also left the beach.

Team R&B did a lot of searching today and finally at Pokai they saw a fat seal coming in with the waves, heading to the rocks. They were able to ID Miss Kala RH76.  She galumphed up on the rocks and plopped herself down where she stayed for the day.

Once again while looking for seals they were treated to the dolphins putting on a show.

When they arrived at the cliffs they found RM31 Kai hidden in the rocks again, pretty much same spot as yesterday. They tried all different angles to get a shot of him and finally they found an opening blocked by a shrub.  Patience persisted in the hot sun, but they got the ID shot of RM31, and his applied N9 bleach.

Before calling it a day they went back to check on Kala RH76. She was still there in the same area. However off in the distance they saw another seal. It was RH32 Kaale on the left sleeping. They saw there were rocks being thrown and checked it out. There was a guy tossing the rocks so they called out to let the seal rest and stop throwing the rocks. The guy answered he was just showing them where the seal was..... hmmmm!

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:15 to 1:55 pm and there were four seals seen during that time.

Out alone on the Lanikai side of LPB was weaner RT19: weaner size and shape, light male belly and two red tags. He really does seem to like this beach.

There were three seals near the 1BS side of LPB:

Adult Male: large adult size, old coat with lots of green, brown male belly and at least one red tag on his RFF. 

RP24 Mohala: sub-adult size, new coat, she appears to be 100% molted, light female belly, two red tags and the nb on her LFF.

Almost directly down from 1BS was RS12 Hoku: juvenile size, old coat, two red tags, tan female belly. Marilyn wasn't able to clearly see her applied N3 bleach, but does believe this is her.

Team R&B arrived at the bay and found three seals on the rocks. There was RH32 Kaale arguing with little RL20 Kalua. Kaale was being a bully and the two of them were making lots of noise. The third seal was RH76 Kala. She was chilling out at her zen garden while the boys were being loud.

Then they spotted to the front of the area another seal. It was RM31 Kai resting on the rocks. He was visited by a fisherman taking a video. Team R&B watched and when he saw them he moved and pointed to RM31.

They watched as poor little RL20 left the area, seem Kaale was a little too much for him.
