11-30-2013 DB's Dailies: RM38,Kaiwi,Kainoa&Duke@RI, R912,Luana,Ka'ena&RIP@KP, Right Spot@MCBH, Buster,Makaiwi&Kermit@WP, M&M,Benny@KCG, Pohaku@Tracks

It was a thoroughly miserable day in the SE quadrant, and probably the rest of the island as well. The wind was insane ! especially at Makai Pier which is nearly uninhabitable with SW winds.

At 0720 I found RM38 once again tucked in behind the driftwood tree branch at the right end of Rabbit Island. Once again I was not able to get a molt percentage.

On my return to Makai Pier at 1030 I found Kaiwi (RK96) 50 ft left of 1BS, and Kainoa (RN04) fronting 2BS, on Rabbit Island.

On a pan at 1114 I found Duke moving down to the water line at Rocky Right Beach. He must have been hiding in the grass at the back of the beach, because I never saw him until this pan.

At 0830 Marilyn checked in from the 10 minute mark on the Mokuleia side Ka’ena Pt trail where she, Lesley & Tia encountered R912. A bit further in they found Luana (RN58) at Hidden Beach.

When they got to the point at 1130 Marilyn reported Ka’ena (RO40) and a 15% molted RIP (RR70) on the Back Beach.

At 0655 Team Billand reported Buster (RV08)&Makaiwi(R4DF), once again at #1760, White Plains.

At 0910 Team Billand reported Kermit (R012) fronting #1708, White Plains.

At 1119 Diane Tekai called advising that she and Melanie had found Right Spot (R016) at North Beach, on MCBH. Right Spot would depart of her own volition a 1214.

Team Billand called again with the report of M&M (R020) at Kalaeloa Campgrounds. Benny would join her at 1713.

At 1427 the Billands found Pohaku (RO28) at Tracks.

11-30-2013 Lesley's Ka'ena Point Trek

Marilyn, Tia & I did Ka'ena Pt today
Marilyn & I checked Mokuleia airfield beaches and Camp Erdman before heading to KPt.

At the "10minutes Beach" from the Mokuleia parking lot we found R912 "Nihoa" sleeping among beach boulders. She was no longer there when we hiked out, but we saw a seal swimming in the area then further on a surprise at Hidden Beach.

Little RN58 "Luana" was hauled up high on the beach with her head in a Naupaka bush. I had seen her yesterday @ Main Beach KPt. She must have had her share of the big boys for a while. She has several superficial nails and teeth marks all over her fur.

There was a group that camped out there, a girl was down the beach so I went and do some outreach. Since I had since dog foot prints on the sand I asked her if they had a dog with them. She said yes and that when she saw the pup she tied the dog to the tent.  On our way back they were cooking and the dog was sleeping tied up by the tent.

There were no foot prints near RN58 "Luana" meaning she was left in peace and there was a perfect coexistence scenario. Although overnight camping and dogs are not allowed there.

At the point RR70 "Rip" (~40/50% molted) and RO40 "Ka'ena" were sleeping peacefully on Back Beach.

Few visitors braved the weather and we had good outreach with them.
Weather got better and we saw many people hiking and driving out to the Pt.   +

11-29-2013 DB's Dailies: RM38,Duke&Kainoa@RI, Kea@SB, Buster,Makaiwi&Kermit@WP, Ewa Girl@WSK, M&M@KCG

At 0722 I found a molting RM38 at the back of Seal Rock Inlet, tucked in next to the driftwood tree branch. He would later move down to a spot behind the water front rocks for the day. Though I confirm that it was him, I could not get a molt percentage due to partial visibility.

On my return to Makai Pier at 1009 I found Kainoa (RN04), 60 ft left of 2BS, and Duke (RA12) tucked into a cave at the back of Rocky Right Beach. All would remain the rest of the day.

Gayle called at 1146 with the report of Kea (RN46) at Crappy Cove, Sandy Beach. He had last been seen on 11-24-13, at AD. We cordoned him off and he remains at dark.

At 0657 Team Billand found Buster (RV08) & Makaiwi (R4DF) together again fronting #1760, White Plains.

At 0750 they reported the arrival of Kermit (R012) fronting #1708, White Plains.
At 0850 the found Ewa Girl (RS00) at Wind Sock.

At Al’s Bench, Kalaeloa Campgrounds they found M&M (R020) at 1012.
