12-27-2012 DB Dailies

At 0710 I found M38 just hauling out at Rocky Right Beach, and moving up. Once he arrived at the cave where Aukai hangs out, I realized that Aukai (RL12) was in there. She would remain there all day. M38 would move down again and I lost him behind the water front rocks at 0720. When I got back to Makai Pier at 0959 I found that M38 had relocated to 20 ft right of 1BS, on RI, where he remained the rest of the day.

At 0742 I found Buster (RV08) doing 8 minute dives at Spitting Cave. I last saw him on his 0825 up.

Team Billand called at 0728 to report Kermit (R012) hauling out fronting #1707 at White Plains.

They also reported that Benny (RE74) remained up amongst the grass and trees at #1707.

Dera sent email from Bill Nimboy documenting Right Spot (R016) at V-land today.

At 0857 Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) hauling out to the fence line, White Plains.

At 1124 Zeeny called to advise that she and Kimo were at Ka'ena Point and had found RK36 and Noa (R6FI) at the end of the world.

Lesley would check in at 1158 with the same report. All reported that RK36 has now lost his last remaining transmitter.

Team Billand called at 1200 to advise that Irma (R010) was just hauling out fronting #1708, White Plains. Once again that is a 4 critter day at WP.

At 1545 the Billands found 2AW at the Waianae Rest Camp.

The Billands reported Pohaku (RO28) at Guard Rails Beach at 1712.

9-9-11 Team Billand Treks Out to Ka'ena Point

A great series of shots from Team Billand.... now these pictures are your usual monk seal postcard pictures, but some that show what the Hawaiian monk seals are up against in the wild. 761 has a new wound to the top of her head, but honestly these animals heal really quickly..... and then we have Kerby and Noa still with hooks in their mouth. Although its' awful to see this, the NOAA team out there today was able to observe their condition and decided not to do anything at this time.  Ka'ena point is a very difficult terrain to treat any of the seals, in that trying to help them may actually do more harm.
