March 31, 2024 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 10:10 to 12:11 and there was only one seal seen during that time.
In the small beach near middle cliff was the same Adult Female that was there yesterday. Large adult size, fat female belly. Marilyn did not see her tags today but that could be her position. Also she noted that her nipples appear to be protruding. Pua is that you?

Team R&B had a total of five seals today. They unfortunately had some problems with their camera, so they managed to get be a couple of photos from their phone.

Their first find which I am sure they were very happy to see was the lovely Miss Kala RH76

Next they found Kekoa Alii RK72 who was joined by RG28 Lefty. Seems Lefty had some words with Kekoa over a spot to rest.

Lastly they found RL20 Kalua. R407 also came up and R407 made his way over for a spot by RL20.

March 30, 2024 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:20 to 2:58 and there were three seals seen during that time.
At middle cliff was an Adult Female 1: latge adult size, fat, nipples protruding and two red tags. The one time showed her right side, Marilyn saw a rear scar. Marilyn thinks this may be RF34 Pua who is predicted to birth around 4/7/2024.  Marilyn hasn't knowingly seen her since she gave birth and raised her pup last year.
Between 3BS and SRI was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, tannish yellow female belly and two red tags.
Out of the rock flats next to SRI was Adult Female 2: adult size, scar above RFF, Marilyn is 95% sure this is the same adult female she saw yesterday.

Team R&B started their day at Kahe. They first got to enjoy the dolphins going to the right, left, farther out and back in, much to the delight of the many divers, snorkelers, swimmers and kayakers.
They found three seals in the area. Kaale RH32, RG32 and RL30 Kalua were hauled up.

Next stop was at the bay. The dolphins were also hanging out here as well, playing as usual. They found R407 Kawika hiding in the rocks.

At another west side location they found three seals. The first one took them a bit to get an ID, but they finally saw his tag. It was R3CU was sleeping in a pond.
In mid rocks at seal inlet was Kai RM31. Its good to see him away from electric beach.
And the last seal of the day was in a pound snoozing. There was RG28 Lefty, he was very cooperative to show them his flipper and scars.

March 29, 2024 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:45 to 2:55 and there were two seals seen during that time.
Initially the only seal was an Adult Female out on the SRI rock flats: adult size, possible pit scar above right shoulder, light gray female belly, not sure about tags. She looks robust but not ready to give birth soon. This is possibly RJ40 from Molokai, perhaps NOAA can provide some input.  The AF later moved up onto the sand.
About 12:55 Marilyn saw a seal hauling up onto the beach about 30 feet Makapuu side of the the 3BS. She believes this is a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, light tannish brown female belly and two red tags.

Team R&B's first sighting were multiple seals in the water. There were only able to ID one of them as R407. There were two others together, but they were not sure of their identity.
Later they spotted a seal on the rocks. It was there boy RK72 Kekoa Alii, he was alone.

They also got to watch the dolphins out and about and putting on a show.  They could see from afar a seal on shore at electric beach. Of course people were gathering checking it out. They were able to ID RM31 Kai and called the hotline to provide them the information.

Team R&B made their way over to plains to check on Aukai RL12. They spent a lot of time educating folks monk seal 101. Aukai is looking gorgeous and very large.
Sadly there was a boy that threw a block of wood at Aukai, and thankfully missed her. Team R&B went to talk with him, first letting him know to never toss anything at a seal. He questioned, why not, that he wanted it to move and go back in the water.  (where the heck is his parents!). They spent quite awhile talking to the boy, they're just not convinced he "got it"

Heading back to the Kahe area, they found RL20 Kalua. They noted he may have a fishing line around his hind flippers, He is okay, and it looks to be a light line.

And last stop at another west side location they found one seal. The ID'd RL70 Leina, she was alone at seal inlet.
