10/15/2020 (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Update

First thing check our front step and there he was R330 Squinty on D27 of his staycation. He spent all day there.

On my monitoring today I also came across little RL98 Lina with her shedding/molt at 60%
Suprise was to find "Kauai" girl R7GM - tags 7GM/7GN. This is her second documented visit to Oahu. First seen by Barbara in 2017 with a fresh CC bite on her TRN. Since then she has acquired many more scars. She is freshly molted and a beautiful seal. She is seal individual #35 documented by me at Ka'ena Pt State Park since Jan 1st
Later I saw RL74 Kami near the waterline sleeping among rocks.
It was such a beautiful day today that it was VERY hard to hold back and not go for a dip in my favorite tide pools. As soon as I got home from work, I gathered everybody, and we all went down for a swim.
Squinty was near the waterline, turned around and galumphed up the beach probably for another overnight.
More tomorrow - be safe ðŸŒºðŸ˜·

May 4,2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley and our Pal Val.  As usual Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Despite their efforts on a stormy Saturday Team Billand only spotted two critters today and they were together.  Their morning started with heavy rains, strong blustery winds. Between the winds blowing debris as big as party tents through the air, there was also a car accident on Farrington Hwy.  AND they persisted, what dedication....!

Finally at a westside beach they spotted two seals on the lower rocks. It was Lei Ola RH48 and Ka'ale RH32. They were there together side by side for the day.  Now talk about a cute couple! But I will say if they have a kid together... all I can think is it will be destine for all kinds of trouble ( the good kine).

News of Kauai seals from out pal Val brought some very cute pictures of the PK2 and the weaner.
Seems Val dealt with the rain while she headed out for her pup sitting session.  She did note that rainy days seem the seals are more active, and there aren't a lot of people out on the beaches.
Four out of the five seals Val found today were part of Rocky's clan.  ( I guess as much as us Oahu folks say Rocky is from Oahu, it's clear her family lives on Kauai.)
RL08/09 or as we like to call him BamBam Square Pants entertained Val most of the day. First found himself a coconut husk and then decided to hang out with 7GM an older female to play with.  RL08 is still a large bodied boy and loves to swim on his back.  ( like a block of ice ).
RN44 ( his uncle, male born 2013) was nearby but did not interact with the kid.
The new pup PK2 is doing well and growing fast. He and his mom RK52 had long swim sessions and then a healthy snack. Apparently this boy is very vocal when hungry. At one point Val had a good laugh when Momma buried her head in the sand to tune him out. He also tried to find the milk nozzle on a nearby rock.

1/27/2017 DB's Dailies: Buster & Kawena @ Rabbit Island, R7GM,Aukai,Squinty,Ka'ena & Luana@Ka'ena Point, RW02@Maili, Kerby,Kolohe&Kekoa@Maili Pt,

Though I arrived at Makai Pier at 0730 , it would be 1029 before the first Rabbit Island cast member showed up. It would prove to be Buster (RV08) who hauled up out of Seal Rock Inlet on Rabbit Island, and snoozed away the day.

At 1210 Kawena (RH36) hauled out fronting 1BS, on RI. That was my Monk Seal day.

 Barbara would have a more productive day. At 1117 she reported R7GM, Aukai (RL12), Squinty (R330), Ka’ena (RO40 & Luana (RN58) at Ka’ena Point.

While she was at the End of the World, Robert called at 1134 with the report of RW02 in Maili.

At 1604 Team Billand found Kolohe (RW22), Kekoa(RK72)& Kerby (RW08).

1/26/2017 DB's Dailies: Buster@Sandy Beach, Kawena@Rabbit Island, R7GM@Ka'ena Pt, RW02@Maili, Kekoa,RK36,Kerby&Kolohe@Maili Pt,

A call from posse member Carla, at 0655 brought word of an animal near the Naupaka at the east end of Sandy Beach. When I arrived at 0704 I found Buster RV08). The Hotline was notified.

At 0806 I arrived at Makai Pier to find what would prove to be Kawena (RH36) just hauling out and moving up, just right of 1BS on Rabbit Island. She would be the one and only RI resident today.

At 0604 Team Billand found Benny (RE74) at Secrets. He would depart at 0612.

At 0933 Barbara reported R7GM on the back beach at Ka’ena Point.

While Barbara was at the End of the World, Robert was combing the west side. At 1038 he reported RW02 at Maili.

At 1113 he found Kekoa (RK72)& Kolohe at Maili Point. At 1550 they advised that Kerby (RW08)&RK36 had made it a gang of 4.
