11/29/2014 Technical Problems

Aloha Good People!

I forgot my power cord at the store this evening and it has been an extremely long day.... I don't have enough battery life to update tonight ..... so I apologize.

I will have time in the afternoon tomorrow.... again my apologies.

11/29/2014 DB's Daillies:

At 0750 , on my first look at Rabbit Island , I found RM38 & Kolohe (RW22), 50 ft left of 1BS, Aukai (RL12) and a 50% molted RK36 at Right Greenery. On my 0950 check I found that Duke (RA12) had now joined RK36 at RG.

Kea was gone on my 0625 check, and through 3 additional checks he was still a no show. On my 1122 return to Sandy Beach, there was Kea (RN46) at the outfall. A very nice couple who were initially inside what would become the cordon, and graciously moved, advised that he had been there about 1 hrs. I had received no calls. He was at the Naupaka when I arrived, but moved down to cool off while I was putting up the cordon.

At 0708 Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) at the fence line, White Plains. She departed at 1640.

Ast 1030 they reported the arrival of Haupu (RB24) fronting the Surf Shack at WP. She departed at 1750.

At 1140 th Billands advised that they had gotten word on an animal at Paradise Cove at 1130, but upon arrival witnesses advised that the adoring hordes had run the animal off. The Billands got the Pohaku (RO28) from witness photos.

A text from Dana advised that Lesley had found RI37 at Crozier Dr.

Dana called at 1734 with a report of an U/U in Ewa Beach. Awaiting photos.

In the Yesterday’s News department Kimo Smith sent shots of a 5% molted Ka’ena (RO40), a 100% molted RIP (RR70) and after a long absence, Temp#402, last seen on Oahu on 9-8-14. He is sporting a new V? (1 or 7) left side bleach. Obviously, he has been to Kauai

11/28/2014 AND MORE.... Pohaku at Paradise Cove

Happy to see volunteers getting out to Paradise Cove to help out with the crowds.... But it's not easy.... it never is, there are always the folks in the crowd that give you a hard time.... or feel the need to bark at the seals.  Often times one walks away feeling like they're not making a difference.  Well that's not true.... even on those exhausting difficult days, it matters. You are the eyes and ears out there to report what is going on.

THANK YOU Diane T for spending a difficult day out there....

11/28/2014 More on Pohaku at Paradise Cove

Aloha Good People!  Thanks to Angel for sharing these additional photos of Pohaku at Paradise Cove.... Pictures can be deceiving... according to these photos looks like she has the beach to herself... but based on comments from a couple of folks that was NOT the case.

and the reality

11/28/2014 DB's Dailies: Kolohe,RM38,RK36,Duke,Kainoa&Aukai@RI, Kea@SB, Pohaku@PC, Makaiwi@IRQ

Kea was gone on my 0625 Sandy Beach Check.

At 0708 on my 1st Rabbit Island check I found Kolohe (RW22)&RM38 in the Morning Glory , 40 ft left of 1BS , Duke (RA12) fronting 1BS, and a 35% molted RK36 at Right Greenery.

Duke, Kolohe&RM38 had moved down, at 0952. Out of the Morning Glory came a small animal that I’d had no idea was even there. The guys went nuts, and the battling and jockeying for position. By their behavior I thought must be a female, but it was too small. It would prove to be Kainoa, (RN04), a male. Males will often exhibit that behavior , protecting young males and females. Kainoa finally tired of all the hassles, and moved back up into the Morning Glory until everybody left.

At 1016 what would prove to be Aukai (RL12) hauled out and galumphed up to hang out with the boys. She would lead them all into the water at 1030.

I spent most of the day doing Kea checks periodically at Sandy Beach. Finally, on my 1302 recheck, there he was on the outfall. I cordoned him off.

Diane T., called with the report of Pohaku (RO28) at Paradise Cove.

At 1414 Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF) at Iroquois Point.
