11/30/2010 DB Dailies

At 0540 I found Right Spot at Sandy Beach. Initially I saw yesterday's wallow, and the signs, with human tracks leading right up to the wallow, but no Right Spot, indicating that she'd had an encounter with a moron overnight. I walked down the beach and found her about 50 ft east of yesterday's location. I redid the cordon and she has remained all day. I picked up the rope and left the signs at 1830. Right Spot remains.

When I got to Spitting Cave at 0757 I found Buster and Kolohe together, doing 7 minute dives. I'd last seen Buster at Rabbit Island on 11-25-10 . Since he should be molting any second now, I was beginning to think he was rotting somewhere else, so I was happy to see my #3 son. Hopefully, he'll be back home at Rabbit Island tomorrow.

My first look at Rabbit Island had been a bust, however when I got back to Makai Pier at 0900 I found Duke and Sam together at the left end, and Sadie by herself up in the grass at the right end. All would remain the rest of the day.

Team Billand's first call came at 0842 with the report of Benny fronting #1707 at White Plains.

Next came a report of RO28 at Guard Rail Beach, Maili Pt, at 1026. Dera got a DOCARE call in the afternoon, reporting that kids were throwing rocks at RO28. An officer was on the scene. Dana checked in at 1700 to advise that all was quiet, and the officer was still around.

At 1119 they found Kermit at Tracks. This was the first sighting at this location.

Rocky was next, hauling out to Kermit's Reef on the west side of the Nimitz jetty at 1356.

Lastly, at 1437 they found Ewa Girl at Palm Grove, Campbell Industrial Park at 1437. She had last been seen, by the Billands of course, at Wind Sock , on 10-22-10. Where in the archipelago that girl has been, only Ewa Girl knows !

11/29/2010 DB Dailies

At 0730 I found Kolohe doing 7 minute dives at Spitting Cave.

My first look at Rabbit Island had been a bust, however when I got back to Makai Pier at 0946 I found Duke and Sam together at the far left end of the beach. They would remain there all day. There was no observed interaction.

At 1157 Sadie hauled out at Seal Rock Inlet at the right end of the beach. She would remain there the rest of the day.

Team Billand found RO28 at Guard Rails Beach, Maili Pt. at 0836. Also at 0836 they advised that they had gotten a call from one of their posse reporting Benny at Tower#1, White Plains, however when they arrived Benny was gone. Witnesses said he had been run off by idiots. You know Benny never gives up. He would haul out again fronting cottage #1708 at 1031.

The Billands found Irma waiting for them at Wind Sock, Kalaeloa Beach, at 0957.

Dera called at 1354 with the report of an animal at Mokuleia. According to the caller the same animal had also been there yesterday. There was no ID info. The single photo that arrived a bit ago provides no useable info for ID purposes, however it's possible there is a molt going on there. More photos, concentrating on the animals markers and sex, are definitely required.

Posse person, Stacey Stella called in the late afternoon, asking if there were any seals in our neighborhood, to which I answered , No. I told
her to feel free to do a beach check since Mom-in-law was visiting and she wanted to see an animal. To my Total shock Stacey called at 1645 to excitedly tell me that Right Spot was at the east end of Sandy Beach ! I had not see anybody on my last check, but sure enough when I arrived, there was Right Spot snoozin' at the east end. I got her cordoned off and will recheck her shortly. YA' DONE GOOD STACEY !!!

I picked up the rope and left the signs at 1900. Right Spot remains.

11/28/2010 DB Dailies

While I was doing the usual morning checks, Marilyn dogged it down into the innards of AD's (the Alan Davis Estate), at the base of Makapuu , on the Sandy Beach side, in response to a call received by Dana last night (1815), reporting an animal at that location. When I spoke with the caller she could knew nothing of her location, nor could she provide any meaningful info on the animal. Since it was already dark when I got the info, we waited until this morning to trek the area. I did 10% and Marilyn combed the rest. We found nothing, which was pretty much expected what with a rising tide in the early morning hours, and the normal behavior of animals remaining on the beach until dark and then going out for the nightly feed.
At 0937 I found Kolohe at Rocky Right Beach, at the right end of Rabbit Island. He would later move down and remained there all day.  At 1202 Sam hauled out at the left end of the beach. He too would remain the rest of the day.

Posse member Toni Russ called at 0745 reporting an animal she believed to be Rocky at Ewa Beach Park. Signs were placed, and photos taken. Her photos confirmed the Rocky ID, and Team Billand also confirmed Rocky on their check at 1042.

Team Billand reported Benny and Irma at White Plains at 0836. They were in separate locations, just like yesterday.

I'd like to take a moment here and give giant Mahalos, and a huge ALOHA to Lorrin Ngum !! Who Dat ? you ask. Well, in addition to being a really nice guy, and one of June Kawamata's (my 1st posse member) Lanai Lookout Whale Clan Posse, not to mention the father of the neatest Jack Russell Terrier ever (Cricket), he is also in your life and mine every single day as we open da' blog. Lorrin is the guy who got that GRRRRRRREAT Kolohe shot back on 5-17-08, which is the header for da' blog. Lorrin is off to the mainland. I sincerely hope that this is just temporary insanity.  (yes I will be forever grateful for this great photo... thank you Lorrin for being so generous and allowing me to use it for the header.... oh and chances are it will stay there for a long long time, since its' one of DB's favorites.)
If you guys are like me you wait with nervous anticipation for Team Kenyon's Ka'ena Point trek reports. Wellllll.......... Vini...Vidi...Vinci Zero !! The came...they saw, and they found nobody at the end of the world.
Inconceivable! Unheard of! What are those critters thinking?
A 1701 call from Dera advised or an animal in Laie. Dana called later to say that volunteers were on the scene however darkness made and ID nearly impossible. Awaiting photos at this writing.
