Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island today from 10:20 am to 1:22 pm and there were five seals seals seen during that time.

Initially on the berm in the middle of LPB was RT19. (Kala's 2024 pup) He is juvenile size, older coat, male belly and two red tags. He is looking healthy.

On the 1BS side of LPB was an adult female with an old coat: dark

brown with some green, female belly and two red tags. This seal is believed to be RJ30 Wailea, who just pupped on Mokolua Nui on July 18, 2025. 

At 12:36 pm, the two recent weaners hauled out together between the 3BS and SRI. Both looking chubby weaner size and shape with two red tags and light tan male bellies. One of them is RU48 and the other RU64.  

Near the SRI channel was a small seal that is labeled as RU38: older weaner size and shape, two red tags, tannish yellow female belly.

Tammy was out at Ka'ena Point with Lesley and Michael. Their first find was RG40 Holokai on hidden beach. There are lots of wedge tailed shearwater chicks and their growing, making it easier to find.  

The big surprise was seeing RU40 out at the point. He is the last of the Ka'ena weaners to be seen at the point. Seems all three weaners have grown up enough to make it to the point at sometime.  They watched as he foraged in a tide pool and at one point he got himself a sea cucumber. 

Down the shoreline was his cousin RU56 resting on the coral. She has an applied bleach N56 which makes it easy to ID. A big adult seal came up and pestered her. It was RW02 PvKauai, who shouldn't be pestering this weaner girl.  After a few nudges he left.

Lastly, there have been four bristle thighed curlew at the point and great for them to watch.

Team R&B first find was at Pokai. There was an adult male without tags. They were able to ID RG32 alone.  A second seal to the right was RH76 Kala. She was alone on the rocks near the homeless camp. Team R&B didn't stay so they wouldn't draw attention to her.

They saw R3CX Nalu with RH48 Lei Ola foraging by rest camp. There were sharks in the area feeding, the seals went to the far right.

Heading over to tracks, they were surprised to see R604 still there. She was alone other than the woman walking by her with her dog.

Their next stop was at plains where they spotted two seals way up on shore. Thankfully they were roped off. There was the RL12 Aukai and RN14 Kalani. It appears that RL12 might be starting her molt with an opening around her neck area.

Much to their surprise, Team R&B found two more seals by the cabins. There was KG89 with R407/ It appears that KG89 has lost her hook. Team R&B did not see it at all today.

Their last find of the day was a seal they spotted from afar near the lifeguard stand. They headed over and there was the lovely RL70 Leina. She has gained a lot of weight since they last saw her.  She is looking good and being watched over by being near the lifeguards.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:00 am to 1:17 pm and during that time it was mostly sunny with brisk winds.

A NOAA team of Mark, Christy and Hope kayaked to Rabbit Island with hopes of bleaching some seals.

When Marilyn first starting viewing from the pier she didn't see any seals, but then she spotted what appeared to be fresh monk seal tracks by the dunes in the 3BS area. Not long after NOAA team arrived,

Marilyn realized there was a seal up in the dunes. This seal turned out to be RT19 (Kala's 2024 pup) juvenile size, older coat, male belly and two red tags. The NOAA team confirmed his ID and unfortunately he was too aware of their presence for them to bleach him. He entered the water about 12:44 p, and hauled out again in the Middle Cliff area at about 1 pm.

The NOAA team found a seal in the RRB channel that Marilyn could not see from the pier. This seal was an untagged sub-adult male.

According to NOAA he had no real distinguishing marks. Christy tried to get an applied bleach on him. She managed to get a N15 on his dorsal and a N on one of his sides BUT he soon went into the water so the bleaches probably won't take.

Meanwhile weather on the west side was rainy and misty. Team R&B were out and about doing their usual searches and only found Miss Kale RH76.  She had just hauled out when they arrived.  She is

looking healthy and fat.  She found her resting spot by the "zen" garden and stayed there all day.  Seemed like the perfect spot on the miserable day.

Most of the beaches were closed off again due to high surf. In Makaha the surf came over the road.

December 10, 2024 Tuesday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:35 to 2:10 pm and there were seven seals seen during that time.

There were three seals on LPB that moved around some:

Adult Male 1: adult size, new coat, 100% molted, medium gray male belly, did not see tags.

Adult Female: robust adult size, tannish gray female belly, two red tags and upper/lower neck scar.

Between 1BS and 2BS was Adult Male 2: adult size, light gray male belly, two red tags and about 99% molted. 

Between 3BS and SRI were two seals:

Sub-adult Male: sub-adult size, tan male belly and two red tags.

Adult Male 3: adult size, dorsal older brown coat with mid-dorsal pit scar, about 40% molted with a gray chest, did not see tags.

Way out on RRB was RT19: weaner size, older coat and light yellowish tan male belly and two red tags. 

Team R&B started their day at Pokai. They were thrilled and surprised to see RG28 Lefty there. He still is hooked with a line.  With him to his right was Miss Kala RH76. Team R&B noted they were a little worried  about the line trailing as Lefty moved on the rocks.  But they were happy he left yoks.

At the outfall they had been looking out over the water for quite awhile. Then they saw splashing and hind flippers in the air. There were multiple seals, but all they could ID was RM31 Kai. 

They got a call of a seal at another location so they left, but planned on returning.

Team R&B arrived at Makaha and saw a seal on shore. It was RW02 PvKauai, being visited by many folks. Lifeguard did their best to keep people away and had put out some flags.  The surf was pounding, boards were flying all about.  

Then Team R&B happen to look farther out and noticed another seal hauling up by a wall. 

They could see the area was too rough to get to, so they took some photos from afar. The seal was RP28 Wakea arriving. He got hit by the waves, so he moved himself all the way to a wall.

Team R&B went to Kahe where they found three seals. These were the seals they had seen earlier in the outfall. They were all on the rocks:

RN14 Kalani, looking big and green. They haven't seen him in a while. Then there was RM31 Kai with RL20 Kalua. All three were pretty close together.

And that wasn't all! They spotted another seal tucked away inland. They were able to ID R617.
