Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:24 to 2:20 pm and today there were only moms and pups.

Again on LPB was MO3 and her pup PO3. They did two swims approximately 15 minutes each time. Marilyn isn't sure who initiated the swims. When they hauled out the first time PO3 nursed. Marilyn still hasn't seen the applied "3" bleach on PO3. Marilyn thinks a Wedge-tailed Shearwater photo-bombed one of the photos. Both mom and pup seem healthy.

RF34 Pua's pup PO5 spent most of its time hidden behind mom. Marilyn did not see any nursing. Pua only seemed to have only three functional nipples today. Her left rear scar was readily visible. She did not see the applied 5 bleach on PO5.

For the second day in a row Marilyn only saw the top of PO4's head. RK38 Hali'a seems to keep her pup hidden behind her. Marilyn did see an applied bleach low on the left rear side of RK38. She could make out N0 but the 4 was difficult. 

Team R&B got word of two seals hauling out at plains. So they headed over and when they arrived they saw RN14 Kalani with RP20 (little female from Kauai born 2021) They did see her tags. RN14 has no tags, but a scar on the right side of his head, and his natural bleach on right side. They were in a zone and all was good people stayed behind the signs.

Heading back they stopped at kahe where they spotted a seal on the rocks. They were surprised because this wasn't the usual area. The seal

was alone resting, at first they didn't know who it was. But then they saw its tags, it is Puka RP30.  That was it for seals.

At their last stop of the day they saw two whales off shore traveling west. They were thrilled to see them and say bye until next season.

April 5, 2026 Sunday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:54 to 2:20 pm and there were two seals seen during that time.

When she arrived there was only one seal visible. An Adult Male was on the waterfront rocks on the middle cliff side of SRI. The AM is the same one seen on LPB yesterday: smaller adult size, mottled gray male belly; no info on tags. Marilyn spotted what appears to be an applied bleach on the right rear side. Her guess this is R7AF. 

At 12:35 pm after a brief rain shower, Marilyn spotted a seal directly
down from the 3BS. The seal appears to be a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, light yellow female belly, two red tags. This is probably the same S/F that was in the same location yesterday.

Marilyn noted that Rabbit Island is very green and there are a lot of yellow blossoms.

Team R&B first find today was a Kahe. It was a smaller seal resting in its side. They didn't see any tags but noted a cc scar on the bottom right side, 

There were people out and about but nobody was in the water. They saw the lifeguard on a jet-ski following a large tiger shark and its girth was bigger than the jet ski. (as they were told).  The folks from the DLNR and HPD were on site.  Team R&B saw there were whale bones so they let the life guard know. He told the Hawaiian folks at the tent and they were going to get the proper people out later to remove them.

They got word of a seal hauled out at plains, so they headed over. To their surprise it wasn't just one seal but four of them. There were three together and one on its it own.

Today they got to meet a new little female from Kauai RP20.  She was on her own.

Then there were KG89 Huakai with RG32. The fourth seal closer to Huakai and RG32 was R407 Kawika.  The people on the beach had lots of questions. Team R&B did their best to educate them.

Heading back to the west side to catch up with family for dinner they made one last stop. They found three seals on the rocks resting. First was fat lady RH76 Kala. Then there was RM31 Kai. And then there was RU12 little female born in 2025.

Team R&B along with their family decided to go check out the beach across from their Mom's where they spent a lifetime. Many good memories for them to share and today they added to that.  There were two whales that showed up. What a beautiful memory for all of them.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit island from 12:37 to 1:57 pm and there was only one seal seen during that time.

She noted that the water between the shore and Rabbit Island is still very dirty.

Down from the 3BS was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, yellow ventral, female belly and two red tags.

Team R&B started their day on the west side. Their first find was the

lovely Miss Kala RH76. She was alone resting on lower rocks. She is looking quite big.

At the outfall they spotted an adult seal foraging. They tried but couldn't make an ID, so it was reported as an Unknown Adult.  While checking out the seal they saw some dolphins.

From afar they saw a green seal on shore at tracks. They couldn't tell who the seal was but it was surrounded by visitors, some getting too close.  They got a call about another seal so they left the area, but did

go back to check. The seal was still on shore and people were still getting too close and the seal took off. Team R&B saw a good Samaritan who was there when the seal took off scold the lady that caused it.  

Next they headed over to plains. Today there was only one seal and it was Miss Aukai RL12. She was in a zone set up by the lifeguards. There were kids in the area and one of their boogie boards got washed up by her.

Lastly they went down to check on the whale carcass. They got called over to a tent and was surprised to see Dr. Kristi West who remembered them. Its been a while since they have seen her so it was a nice surprise.  They don't know the cause of death of the whale and it's too decomposed to get any information. They didn't see any sharks, until later when a lone tiger shark arrived.
