6-1-11 DB Dailies

At 0620, M&M (R020) and Pup were the only non-winged Rabbit Island cast members. They remained all day. There wasn't a whole lot of action, but I did see 3 feeds, and once again the kid was off to the shore break at every opportunity. In the after, Mom even ventured into the shore break with the kid for a short time.

On my 0652 Spitting Cave check I found Buster (RV08) for the second day, still doing 9 minute dives. When I went back to SC for an afternoon recheck at 1423 I found Duke (RA12) doing 7 minute dives at a separate location from Buster.

Team Billand checked in at 0638 with the report of Makaiwi (R4DF), fronting #1806, Nimitz Cottages. She departed at 1624.  At 1458 they found Pohaku (RO28) at Guard Rails Beach, Maili.

In the "Yesterday's News" department, Dana forwarded Liz Weske shots of what both Tracy and I think is probably KC (RK28), based on available info in the shots, but we both had some reservations.

5-28-11 KC @ Mokuleia

Dana emailed these photos of KC @ Mokuleia late evening.... She's looking pretty large, guess we can expect her to birth anytime soon...  Question is will she stay put or decide to move on to have her pup?

5-23-11 DB Dailies

On my first look at Rabbit Island at 0634 I found M&M (R020) fronting 1BS. She would later move down near the water line, and spent the rest of the day there, just stayin' cool and comfortable.  At 0932, RIP (RR70) hauled out to the far left end of the beach on RI. He would remain there the rest of the day. At 1149, Buster (RV08) would also haul out to the far left end, near, but not too near to RIP. There was no interaction, and he too remained the rest of the day.
Team Billand checked in at 0901 to advise that Makaiwi (R4DF) and Max (R5EW) a couple of hundred feet apart at Nimitz Cottages. Max departed at 1602.

Dera (Welcome back from vacation) checked in at 1513 to advise of an U/U in Mokuleia. Thank you to Judy, Bonnie & Paul for the response and the photo proof of KC (RK28).

Speaking of Mokuleia, I must fess' up to a big Oooops! on 5-21-11. The animal that hauled out there on Saturday, was not KC as I opined. Thanks to Tracy it proved to be 2AW instead. One and a half brains can do anything !

Also in the yesterday's news department, Team Billand managed to get the Pohaku (RO28) at Maili Point (5-21-11) photos out of the camera memory.

I did an end of day recheck of Rabbit Island at 1800. RIP had relocated to 80 right of 3BS, M&M had relocated to Seal Rock Inlet at the right end of the beach, and Buster was nowhere to be found. Still no pup. Maybe tomorrow ????

5-21-11 DB Dailies (Late Entry)

Out was out of the house dark and early, wishin', hopin' and knowin' that I was gonna' find a little pup waiting for me at Rabbit Island. Not only was there no pup...there was also no M&M ... and so began a day of total stress, trying to find M&M, and also keeping in mind that there was an Irma Quest that couldn't be ignored.

At the end of day I found neither M&M nor Irma. Only those girls know what the plan is. I just stumble around , trying to out guess them, and waiting for my Monachus Gene to whisper me a clue. So far, no whispers and no clues !!

The one and only critter in my life today, popped up from behind the water front rocks, 30 ft left of 3BS on Rabbit Island, at 0930. It would prove to be Buster (RV08). He galumphed to the right, coming to a halt, 60 ft right of 3BS, where he spent the rest of the day. It appeared as though he was lookin' for M&M too. Maybe tomorrow ????

At 0730 Dana called with the report of an animal in Mokuleia. On two occasions the animal was reported as RI37 but this would prove not to be the case , as RI37 was seen and a different location. Photos from Liz Weske confirm the KC (RK28) ID.

At 0735 Team Billand reported Makaiwi (R4DF), fronting #1703 at Nimitiz Cottages.  At 0835 the Billands found Kermit (R4DG), fronting #1708, at White Plains.  Max (R5EW) was their next find, at Kalaeloa Campgrounds. Barbara reported that Max departed at 1540.
Dana called at 1150 with the report of an U/U at Ka'ena Point with a fish hook in the left side of the mouth. Dana said she notified Schofield. I spoke with Tracy at around 1230 and she knew nothing about the report so I don't know where the info is , in the NOAA side of the house. Awaiting photo evidence.

Posse member Kelly Evans called at 1350 with the report of Right Spot (R016) at Right Spot's spot, east of the Turtle Bay Hotel.  At 1443 Kelly found RI37 at Val's Reef, Sunset Beach.

Dana called at 1725 with the report of an U/U at Diamond Head. Dana called again at 1740 to advise that the animal had been run off prior to Karen Rohters arrival.

5-5-11 DB Dailies

In the SE Quadrant it was anything but same ol', same ol' today. To begin with there was no Rabbit Island cast. That is because all of the recent cast members Duke (RA12), Kolohe (RW22) and Buster (RV08) were with me, as I trudged the ups and downs of the day.

I found Duke, Kolohe and Buster all together at Spitting Cave at 0707. Duke and Kolohe were in full play mode, while Buster remained there, but off to the side of the action. Buster would drift off , more into the bay at 0724. I checked both China Walls and the Kokee Flat but did not find him. I then returned to SC , where Duke and Kolohe remained.
I did 3 checks of Rabbit Island today, and was not the least bit surprised that there was nobody at RI today.

I returned to Spitting Cave at 1140 and found nobody so I relocated to China Walls, about 1/4 mile further into the bay from SC, at 1205. Sure enough all three were just passing through as I arrived and continued on toward the Kokee Flats, so I relocated to that location at 1240 . Duke and Kolohe remained in play mode about 200 ft off shore of Irma's Grotto, however Buster came in close and for a moment it looked like he was going to haul out, but alas he did not. I lost all three, so I relocated back to China Walls, were witnesses said all three just passed by, so off to Spitting Cave. At 1305 all three showed up, and once again the kids played while Buster stayed on his own. At 1400 I became aware that it was only Duke and I. The other two were no longer visible.

I did a last gasp RI check, (nobody....again) and called it a day at 1600 .  Team Billand checked in at 0930 to report Noa (R6FI) at Maili Point .  At 1012 they found Pohaku (RO28) at Tracks.  Next came their Kermit (R4DG) find at Wind Sock, Kalaeloa Beach at 1047.  Makaiwi (R4DF) was the next find, once again at #1704, Nimitz Cottages, for D#8.

Dera called at 1009 with the report of an animal at Kualoa. The KC (RK28) ID was confirmed with the caller, Bonnie Hobson's photos at 1130.  Also at 1009 Dera reported an animal at Sunset Beach. The RI37 ID was confirmed with posse member, Jen Christian's photos at 1348.
