5-25-2013 DB's Dailies: Kainoa,Kaiwi,Duke&M38@RI, RL42&Ka'ena@KP, Right Spot@3Tables, Buster@DH, KC@Kualoa BP, Benny@SB

On my 2nd look at Rabbit Island, at 0846, I found Duke (RA12), 60 ft out on the left end rock flats. He would remain there all day.

Also at 0846 I found Kainoa (RN04), 80 ft right of 3BS, on RI. He too would remain all day.

At 0946 M38 , in cruiser male mode, hauled out to investigate Duke on the flats, and after two minutes, reentered the water to move down to the right end to do the same thing with Kainoa. The boy was on patrol all day.
At 1025 I found Kaiwi (RK96) on the water front rocks of Right Middle Cliff. She would remain all day.

Marilyn & Lesley did the Ka'ena Point trek today, going in from the Waianae side. 1/3rd of the way in the found RL42. She was still there when they came out.

At the point they found only Ka'ena (RO40), near Ka'ena's Pool. He spent most the the day doing his best hippo imitation .

Posse member Christian called at 1305 with the report of "N21", Buster (RV08) near the Beach Rd end of Diamond Head. A person on the scene said he'd called 3 hrs ago but nobody ever came. Christian got the signs from the showers .

Colleen called at 1530 to advise that she'd gotten a call about an animal just hauling out to the showers. It would prove to be Buster relocating due to the rising tide.

Dana had called at 1403 with the report of a Kualoa animal. Diane Gabriel responded and confirmed "N14", KC (RK28) at Kualoa Beach Park.

Lifeguard posse member Billy called at 1622 reporting an animal just hauling out to the east end of Sandy Beach. When we arrived at 1630 we found Benny (1630), surrounded by his adoring hordes. We managed get him some room , and cordoned him off. I picked up the rope at 1930. Benny remains.

Team Billand had a rare sealess day, however they were still out there as usual. Yesterday they found a large cargo net at Campbell Industrial Park. Today they returned and with the help of visitor snorkelers, Jason & Sarah, they managed to get the thing outta' the water. Ya' Done Good!!!

6-29-2012 DB Dailies: M&M,Pup (D#17),Kolohe&Sadie@RI, Irma@MB, Buster@SC, Kaiwi@LL, 2AW@Elec.Bch, T21M@Kualoa, KC@Mokuleia, Benny@Yokes, Right Spot, 3 Tables

The first order of business was to check Irma's at 0535. Thankfully, Irma had departed . I picked up the signs and continued the adventure.

At 0630 I found M&M (R020)&Pup (D#17), once again at Rocky Right Beach, Rabbit Island. I looked from a variety of locations throughout the day, and they were only partially visible , behind the water front rocks, at best.
Posse member Gayle called at 0724 with the report of an animal at Spitting Cave. It would prove to be Buster (RV08). He spent the day patrolling from the big rock to the 2nd point, with the occasionaL foray into the bay , no doubt on his "Irma Quest". The boy just doesn't give up ! Gayle and I observed 7 minute dives. Posse member Colleen reported that he was still there, at 1304 as she was doing tour guide duty.
Knowing that Irma was in the area, I was, of course, in maximum Irma Quest mode. I had checked Makapuu 4 times, but on my 5th time, at 0955, as I peered down at the beach, from along side the road, therrrrrrre was an animal rolling in the shore break off shore of the right end of the beach. When the animal began to haul out I headed for the beach, and at 1007 I was cordoning off Irma (R010) at the right end of Makapuu. If you think , for a moment that I have a clue what I'm doing you are sadly mistaken "grasshoppas". There is a gigantic element of BS luck involved here. She has remained the rest of the day. I picked up the rope at 1950. Irma remains.

At 1042 on my 2nd look at Rabbit Island I found what would prove to be Sadie (RB12) and Kolohe (RW22) together, 60 ft left of 1BS on RI.

At 1248 posse member Gayle called to report Kaiwi (RK96) at Lanai Lookout .

Team Billand checked in at 0810 with the report of 2AW at Electric Beach.

Dana called at 0812 with the report of an animal at Kualoa Beach Park. Latest word as of 1339 was that it was T21. Dera confirmed the tag number but accidently deleted the photo , however another shot shows his old transmitter patch

At 0845 Dana called with the report of an animal behind the Polo Field, Mokuleia. The single photo received (thank you Bonnie) would suggest KC (RK28).

Team Billand checked in again at 1201 with the report of Benny (RE74) at 3rd Dip, Yokes.

A email report of Dana advised that Right Spot (R016) was a sighted at 3 Table (Shark's Cove) today, around noon. Thank You Hannah. The photo Dera sent is of no ID value.

There isn't much news from "the back of beyond" in the wilds of Kahuku, but I thought you'd like to know that Ua Malie is 2 years old today !!!!

 Happy Birthday Ua'Maili

5-24-2012 DB Dailies: Ewa Girl&Buster@HB, Kolohe@SC, Nani@RI, Benny@PC, Kerby@Maili Pt, R5AY@Kualoa

On my first look at Hanauma Bay, at 0608, from the overview, I found an animal on the left side rock flats. When I got down there I found Ewa Girl (RS00). She owns the property there, and for years, was a regular at that location. The last year or so, she has been much less evident in the SE quadrant. This is her first visit to HB since and overnighter on 11-13/14-2011. She remained all day. More in a bit.

At 0952 I found Kolohe (RW08) doing 6 minute dives at Spitting Cave. He would disappear around the point around 1017. I did not see him again today.

At 1140 I found Nani (RK60) on the incline, 100 ft left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. She would have the place all to herself again today. Nani turns 1 year old today !

Having Ewa Girl back was, I thought, the highlight of the day. Nope....

At around 1330 I called Hanauma Bay just to see if anyone had done a Toilet Bowl check. If not I planned to go. I was advised the HB posse member "Jack at the Bay" was going down. For some reason I elected to let Jack do it, instead of going , and call me if he found anything. OMG !!!!! At 1358 Jack calls to say that there was a swimming animal in the Toilet Bowl inlet, larger than Kaiwi, and with no transmitter. I advised that I was on my way. A couple of minutes later, another Jack call. The animal had swum into the underwater channel and INTO the Toilet Bowl, bowl, then after 5-6 attempts, flushed up out of the Toilet Bowl, and onto the surrounding rock flats. He confirmed the "N21", (Buster /RV08). "I'm on my way...I'm on my way ". A coupla' minutes later (just as I'm arriving at the HB parking lot, Jack called to advise that Buster had reentered the Toilet Bowl, and disappeared. Bummmmmmmmmer !!!!!!

Jack was in awe of having seen an animal do that. I know the feeling well, having watched Irma do the same thing a few years ago.

Since I was at Hanauma Bay I decided to go over to the overview and check on Ewa Girl. When I looked over the edge OMG !!! there were TWO seals on the flats!!

When Jack and I got down there, lo and behold there was Buster (RV08) along side Ewa Girl. For those of you not paying attention , or new to the game, Buster is Ewa Girl's 7 year old son. Her first documented Oahu child, born on Rabbit Island in 2005 (and my 3rd born son). According to my records this is Buster's first ever documented visit to either Toilet Bowl and Hanauma Bay.
Jack called as Hanuama Bay was closing to advise that both were still there. Tomrrow ?????????

At 0735 Team Billand checked in with the report of Benny (RE74) at Paradise Cove. Dana and Vera did PC duty today. Benny departed at 1500 with the rising tide.

At 1010 the Billands reported Kerby (RW08) all alone at Maili Point. He was gone on the Billand's 1521 check.

Dana advised of a Kualoa animal this morning, and reported in again at 1555 to advise that it was R5AY. Diane "Diga" Gabriel confirmed that she had been on duty at the R5AY site. Diga photos are on the way.

 Ewa Girl @ Hanauma Bay
My guess Big Momma Ewa Girl is ready to pop... question is, will she go back to rabbit island? -OR- is she on her way to reef runway?

R5AY along road side. I HATE when they haul out along this stretch. Every time I drive this stretch of road I also check to see... they're just inches away from the road.
