Marilyn made it to the pier today but when she arrived and flash flood warning was posted she didn't stay long. She mentioned on the 4:00 news a sinkhole had formed on Kalanianaole Hwy near Makapuu which closed the road in both directions. Its a good thing she left when she did.  

She only stayed for about a half hour and there were six seals during her viewing.

On the shoreline down from the 3BS were two seals:

Adult Male: adult size, older coat, mottled tan male belly and no info on tags.

A short distance Makapuu of the AM and mostly hidden behind waterfront rocks was an Unknown Unknown #1: probably sub-adult to adult size, no info on sex or tags,

Near the SRI channel was Juvenile Unknown #1: juvenile size, older  coat no info on sex or tags.

On the rock flats between SRI and RRB were two seals about 20 feet apart:

Sub-adult Unknown: newer coat. no info on sex or tags.

Juvenile Unknown #2: larger juvenile size, older coat with some green, no info on sex or tags.

Out on RRB was Unknown Unknown #2: probably juvenile to sub-adult size, older coat, no info on sex or tags.

Team R&B were out early making the rounds without finding any seals. They went back later to check on the area and found Miss Kala RH76. She was alone resting at her zen area. She is looking very large these days.

There was a bird hunting in the tide pools, but it didn't catch anything. 

Continuing to look they didn't find anymore seals. The area was full of dead vana, that Barb started to
collect them. Then she noticed the awful smell. 

There are Kukui nuts all over the beach and lots of debris. The water continues to be brown.

They saw saw a turtle land but it quickly left.

Off of Tracks area they noticed a large buoy floating. Seems the storm brought it in..  Then the dark black clouds were coming so they called it a day.

March 14, 2026 Saturday's Dailies

There was no post for Friday 3/13 due to the storm that hit the island, people were home dealing with heavy rains, high winds and power outages.

But today's dailies are brought to you by Team R&B💕 They of course couldn't wait to get out there today.

They headed out to the west side, I'm sure to try and find N45. It was another day of rain, not as bad and the winds died down some. 

They found the lovely Miss Kala RH76 with foam from the beach around her and on her body. She stayed there for the day.

They did their entire route and the only find of the day was Kala.  The coast line was brown dirty water and foam everywhere.  (caused by the agitation from the wind and waves)

They saw lots of Iwa birds and Team R&B did their best to capture them in their photos. There was lots of debris and by the end of the day the surf was wild again.

April 24, 2025 Thursday's Dailies

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from Makai Pier from 12:34 to 2:21 pm and there were seven seals seen during that time. Thankfully there were no humans today.

Again in the LPB surge channel were MO3 and her pup PO3. There wasn't much activity to view. An Adult Male who had already visited with RF34 and PO4 showed up at MO3/PO3 at 1:26 pm. MO3 must have given the AM the stink eye because he left shortly after arriving.

Almost directly down from the 3BS were RF34 Pua and PO4. There were mostly in snooze mode. At 1:16 pm Marilyn saw a seal approaching Pua and pup along the waterline. When Pua became aware of the Adult Male she charged after him and he turned away from her. He ultimately rolled into the water.

The AM was adult size, dark gray male belly and at least one red tag.

Between 3BS and SRI was a seal labeled as a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, very green female belly and two red tags. Marilyn is reasonably sure this is the same seal from yesterday labeled as a Sub-adult Female.

At 1:38 pm, a seal hauled out of SRI and started its trek to meet up with the JF. This seal is labeled as an Unknown Juvenile: juvenile size, not sure about sex or tags. It did meet up with the JF and they both went into snooze mode near each other.

Team R&B started their day at pokai where they found Miss Kala RH76.  She was alone on waterfront rocks resting. She must have been there for a while since her coat was completely dry.

They got a call about a seal hauled out at plains. When they arrived they saw a thin seal on its belly, and of course it didn't turn over. There were no tags, and they didn't see any distinguishable marks so they really not sure who this adult is. There was a ding on the right shoulder and a cc scar on mid back. They have labeled it as an Unknown Adult. 

They went over to Nimitz, they didn't find any seals but did see some debris. Their son was with them so they were able to pull a large buoy out of the water. It was way to heavy for them to remove it but at least it was out of the water.  There was a lot of ropes, baskets, plastic jugs, slippers, toys...... such a shame.  They had some help from a very special little character.... how cute is he!

Also there is some very sad news to report, one of our newest pups died today. We don't have the full story, and initial reports are saying it was due to a dog attack. NOAA has opened an official investigation.  Here is the link from Hawaii News Now:

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:24 to 2:47 and there were six seals seen during that time. There were also several kayaks and seven people on island. Marilyn did call the DOCARE office.

On LPB was a juvenile seal she labeled as a Juvenile Male: larger juvenile size, light male belly and no tags. This seal may have some natural bleach marks on its RRF.

Between 3BS and SRI was a Juvenile Female: smaller juvenile size, older coat or just very sandy, tan female belly and two red tags. She went into the water when a couple who had arrived by kayak walked by her.

On the SRI were three seals: 

Closer together were two seals; Adult Female: adult size, darker female belly and two red tags

Nudging her some of the time was an Adult Male 1: adult size, darker male belly and to red tags.

Initially next to SRI, but hauling up on shore closer to the two seals was Adult Male 2: smaller adult size, light male belly and unsure about tags.  This seal had two small but prominent scars lateral and forward of the penial hole.

At 1:52 pm, Marilyn finally saw PO# hauled out far back on the Lanikai side of LPB. He later moved further back next to the cliff and she lost sight of him.

Team R&B's first stop they found two seals. The two males were ID'd as R617 who had just hauled in seal inlet. Next to waterfront rocks was R416.

Next stop was at Nimitz where they found R407 Kawika alone on the

reef. 

As they walked out they saw lots of debris onshore. Walking out a bit further they saw several white 55 gallon drums, wood in the water and pieces of some kind of boat. They notified the lifeguards and sent photos.  Team R&B tried to move some of it and next thing they knew the news crew had arrived.  Lifeguards came with a truck pulled out large pieces dragging it all out to the grass.  Such a mess.

Team R&B got a call of a large seal arriving at white plains. They went out to check it out and were surprised to find RL12 Aukai. Oh

man she is big and she better get herself to Rabbit Island soon.

A volunteer was onsite and had set up a SRA around her.

Last but not least they finally made their way to Kahe where there was a big seal on the rocks. The seal was getting slammed by the waves and finally washed the seal off. Team R&B were able to ID Lefty RG28 before he got washed away.
