Yet another race made getting around in the SE Quadrant a problem this morning. Both Lanai Lookout & Blowhole Lookout as well as half of Sandy Beach parking was taken over by the race, and the Makai lane of the road taken over.

 I did what I could and spent most of the day at Makai Pier. Thank you to Missus Whisper & Melanie for their invaluable assistance. This would have been an U/U fest without them. Ya’ Done Good !!

 At 0733 I found Temp401, in the company of an U/M, with red tags, on the left end rock flats of Rabbit Island. Temp401 was last seen at Ka’ena Point, on 5-27-14. Wound or not wound this girl gets around ! I was not able to get an ID on her accompanying male, but I can’t help but wonder if she brought somebody from KP with her ???

 At 0810 Pua (RF34) hauled out fronting Left Greenery on Rabbit Island.

 At 0816 Marilyn called with the report of an U/U doing 7 minute dives at Spitting Cave. Melanie would also see the animal in the afternoon. 2 red tags were seen as well as an old transmitter patch on the shoulder hump. This was definitely not the U/U that Gayle and I saw the last two days at SC.

 At 1054 Marilyn called with the report of Kea (RN46) and another animal in the cove on the Sandy Beach side of the Blowhole Lookout.

At 1230 we would confirm the Duke (RA12) ID on the other animal. I believe Duke to be the U/U swimmer at SC the last couple of days. They have remained the rest of the day. Gayle advised that Duke departed at 1812. Kea remains.

 Marilyn and I were ready to proceed to Hanauma Bay for the daily Toilet Bowl check, but as we readied to leave a 3 car crash, fronting the lookout, closed the west bound lanes. So much for dat !

I called Jack (at the Bay), and he and camera caddy Robert Murphy, did the TBL check, confirming Kaiwi (RK96) cruisin’ there. Thanks guys.... Ya’ Done Good !!!

 Team Billand checked in at 1220 with the report of Buster (RV08) at the Snack Shack, White Plains. It sounded like yet another day typical Zoo day at White Plains. Thankfully, Buster departed at 1529.

 At 1633 the Billands found Haupu (RB24) at Nanakai Beach, Maili.

 At 1708 Team Billand reported Benny (RE74) at Maili Point.

 Dana sent photos recieved from the Hotline, said to be RI37 somewhere on he North Shore. She advised there was a tag shot, but it was not in the email I received.

 Temp 401 back on Rabbit Island - so happy she decided to stick around. Just want to make sure she's okay.

It was anything but a routine day at Rabbit Island. When I confirmed that RB08 was in fact there, Mission RBOB was on. The Littnan Expedition of intrepid NOAA personnel headed out with no cooperation whatsoever from weather or seas, and successfully completed the removal of a sizeable Alua hook . Thank you from the bottom of my little, bald heart to each and every participant.

There were other Rabbit Island residents as well. RIP, Buster and R301 were all there, post mission. Fortunately, RB08 had entered the water and did not have to deal with any of the boyz after her ordeal.

Team Billand was busy as usual, reporting 2AU at Maili, Benny at White Plains, Kermit & Irma at Nimitz Beach, and Ewa Girl at Campbell Industrial Park.

Brenda Becker called to advise that R5AY, had been reported at Waialee Beach Park.

DB Post Friday 2/27/2009

The Rabbit Island cast for today was composed of R301 and Kolohe. They hauled out together at 0957, fronting the 3rd Blue Sign (3BS) on Rabbit Island . They remained there all day. There was some initial nuisance nuzzling, but things quickly settled down to a routine snooze day.

At 0803 when I got to Spitting Cave, I found Buster, for the 2nd day, doing 6 minute dives to the right of the big rock.

The Billands reported an animal at Maili Beach at 1017 . Photos confirm a 2AU ID.

Team Billand called again at 1400 to report Kermit fronting the snack bar at White Plains.

I found voice mail from posse member Rachel this morning at 0630 , reporting that Rocky was on the beach behind Colleen's house at Diamond Head as of 1730 last night. A morning conversation with Colleen confirmed the haul out, and the fact that Rocky was no longer there.

The biggy news of the day began with my finding an email from Diane Pike this morning, advising that she had been contacted by Molokai police last night at 2100, reporting an animal near the "ice house" in Kaunakakai. Since my last trip to Molokai was 30+ years ago, I must confess no knowledge of the geography. Diane and the Bloys got him cordoned off, and as of "middayish" he was still there. Val Bloy will, very probably, be posting something on da' blog to update us all on the latest. Aloha, DB
