DB Post Saturday April 19th Annual Seal Count!

Today was the Great Monk Seal Hunt of 08. Reports of the total count will be coming in over the weekend a better feel of the overall numbers will be out by the beginning of the work week , no doubt.

The Zone #12 Mob, had a pretty good day I think, with 5 animals on Rabbit Island and 1 foraging at Spitting Cave.

R301 ,a male, was foraging at Spitting Cave, and the Rabbit Island cast included, Ewa Girl , the 1 y.o. girls RB08 and Sadie, Buster, a 3 y.o. male (and Sadies older brother), and RM38 , an adult male.

Though there are no photos from today, I've attached a few shots of each, from previous days. Aloha, DB

DB Post Friday April 4th

RIP, Sadie & R301 (akaTemp403)@ Spitting Cave, Kermit@ White Plains,, et.al.
Rabbit Island was bare, except for a few zillion birds, until I got back there at 1530 and found my fat girl, M&M.

On a trip to the SW quadrant I found Kermit at White Plains.

The real fun of the day was finding my first born, RIP, along with Sadie and R301 (aka Temp403) all at Spitting Cave. This sighting was especially significant because it marks the furthest travel for little Sadie , the little 11 month old female born on Rabbit Island. She has become a regular at Blowhole, and has been documented at Lanai Lookout, but this Spitting Cave sighting is a first. Aloha, DB

DB Post Saturday March 8th

The Billands, and the Sparks reported and confirmed Kermit at White Plains, and Irma at Kalaeloa Campgrounds.

The Rabbit Island cast was RB08, and RIP.

It was a stressful day at Spitting Cave, with the Hoku #2 laying surround net close in, with Rocky and Temp 403 swimming in, under, over, and around the net for 2 hours. DOCARE repsponded as they were picking up the net. There is apparently no law against what they were doing, but it was the longest two hours of my life. Nets, of any kind are a crime against every man, woman and monk seal in this state. Aloha, DB

DB's Notes Saturday Feb 9th 2008

The Rabbit Island crew was Sadie, and RIP. At 1130 I found a male, Temp 403 , foraging at SC, and while observing him, Chester made an appearance from stage right, just passing through. I went to the Kokee flats, further into Maunalua Bay, at 1200, and just like a actually have a clue, I found Chester at the spot I call "Irma's Grotto" 300 yds to the left of the Kokee access path. Aloha, DB

Chester out at Spitting Cove or is it Irma's Grotto? DB knows.

DB reports seeing this male known as Temp 403 swimming out by Spitting Cave.
