Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:45 to 2:40 despite the heavy overcast skies. There was only one seal during her observation.

Out on the rock flats Lanikai side of LPB was an U/S: probably subadult size, no info on tags or gender. This is a difficult area to view seal since it is where the waves peak and with the brisk winds there is constant salt spray. Hopefully there be more critters next time she checks.

Team R&B started their day finding Miss Lei Ola RH48.  She was high up on the rocks snoring her

heart away. Eventually she did move down a bit. Team R&B noted this is day four in the same spot.

Their next stop they saw lots of dolphins jumping about. Such a wonderful site to see. R07 M was on the rocks snoozing and alone.  

They didn't have a lot of seals today, they went back to one of the sites from early. They finally found one last seal. There was RL20 Kalua hiding in the rocks. He only moved once the high tide came.

05/03/2022 Tuesday's Daily

 

Todays dailies are brought to you by Lesley and Team R&B💕  Lesley's full Ka'ena Update is part two of the dailies. It's been a while but I don't think Lesley left anything out, she been busy.

Team R&B first two seals today were Lei Ola RH48 and R3CU.  They were together high up in the brush area.  I am sure Team R&B are thrilled to see Miss Lei Ola.

Then they spotted a little seal in the big surf, so they waited for it to come in. They were happy they did, it was RL20 Kalua and they could not see any lines or hooks.  When he came in he would join R3CU and Lei Ola on the rocks.

Next was little RM31 Kai, fighting the surf. He came in then the waves tossed him around. He didn't care he was determine to stay.

At first when they arrived at another west side location they didn't see anything. They waited around a bit and were rewarded when Pe'ekai came slithering in.  Pe'ekai RP84 hauled out with the help of the waves and just went with the flow. He ended up inland on his sand patch.

At their next stop they found little molokai boy R07M, on the rocks. He was relaxed snoozing the day away, not even the huge waves didn't get him to move.

They decided to check out the popular tourist area, when they arrived Left was on shore.  RG28 :Lefty was alone and snoozing surrounded by four signs (tall ones that Team R&B put together)  Lefty kept looking at the water, but there wasn't anything out there.

While watching over Lefty and educating folks, they spotted a seal coming in. (maybe that's what Lefty was looking out for) Seal came on shore and it was Aukai.RL12, and RG28 went ballistic, rushing towards her.  Aukai took off with Lefty swimming after her.  Aukai landed to the right outside of the existing zone. So they hurried to get folks back and make some adjustments.  They called the hotline again. 

Before they were calling it a day they dealt with some drama at the site. 

They were standing keeping people back from the seals when yet another one is coming in fast. It was Kaale RH32 and Team R&B knew trouble had arrived, so they were asking people to remove their belonging because there was going to be some action. One gentleman had to be told several times to move a baby buggie that ended up being 3 feet of Kaale. They called the hotline and told them someone was needed at the site, no one was listening and there were three seals. Team R&B called it a day.

05/02/2022 Monday's Daily

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:30 to 1:45 and there were two seals today.

About 70 feet Lanikai side of the 2BS was an unknkown juvenile UJ: juvenile size, not sure of gender since its belly was so sandy, and there were no tags seen. The U/J started to climb the sand berm but gave up and settled down next to the berm to rest.

A subadult female S/F was between 3BS and SRI. S/F: subadult size, yellowish tan female belly and two red tags. She later moved towards the 3BS and then up into the dunes. There were no NBs seen on left side so this is not RK37.

Team R&B arrived at the bay and saw three seals in the water foraging and fighting. They were able to ID RM31 Kai. One seal was coming in fighting the big surf. It was Kai RM31, he landed on the rocks and went right to sleep.  They lost sight of the other two seals in the water.

Team R&B had gone to all their spots checking for seals and came up with nothing.  At one particular site after an hour and a half, they got to see the dolphins at play.

They tried again and finally they found one seal on the rocks. It was R07M formally known as L7. The little one was settled in and never moved for them.

It was late but Team R&B tried again to check the site. There were two seals foraging. They were able to ID RL20 Kalua, but could not see the right corner of his mouth. They couldn't tell if he still had a tangle of fishing line attached. He was foraging doing 5 minute dives in the big surf.

After watching him forage they figured out the second seal was Kai RM31.
