April 18, 2024 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Tammy and Team R&B💕

Tammy and Dave hiked La'au with Molokai posse pals Diane and Liz. They saw a total of ten seals.
One interesting note was that RKB2 and RL90 are both offspring from Oahu's beloved R016 Right Spot.
R419 is a young male that has been seen on Oahu. The other critters were: R421, RQ70, RK78, RO6Q, RS02, RS42, and RQ28.

Team R&B started their day at the bay. There they found that the
lovely Miss Kala RH76. She's back at her zen garden.

At another west side location they found Kai RM31 hidden in the rocks. Thankfully his applied bleach was visible for them to get a positive ID.
They spotted an adult seal off shore making 6 to 7 minutes dives. They did not get an ID but think they saw a "tracker" on its back. The seal never landed so they reported it as an unknown adult.
The dolphins put on a show today, always a pleasure to see!

At Kahe there was only one seal. It was RL20 Kalua alone enjoying his siesta. They did check on him later in the day and he was still there.

May 4,2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley and our Pal Val.  As usual Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Despite their efforts on a stormy Saturday Team Billand only spotted two critters today and they were together.  Their morning started with heavy rains, strong blustery winds. Between the winds blowing debris as big as party tents through the air, there was also a car accident on Farrington Hwy.  AND they persisted, what dedication....!

Finally at a westside beach they spotted two seals on the lower rocks. It was Lei Ola RH48 and Ka'ale RH32. They were there together side by side for the day.  Now talk about a cute couple! But I will say if they have a kid together... all I can think is it will be destine for all kinds of trouble ( the good kine).

News of Kauai seals from out pal Val brought some very cute pictures of the PK2 and the weaner.
Seems Val dealt with the rain while she headed out for her pup sitting session.  She did note that rainy days seem the seals are more active, and there aren't a lot of people out on the beaches.
Four out of the five seals Val found today were part of Rocky's clan.  ( I guess as much as us Oahu folks say Rocky is from Oahu, it's clear her family lives on Kauai.)
RL08/09 or as we like to call him BamBam Square Pants entertained Val most of the day. First found himself a coconut husk and then decided to hang out with 7GM an older female to play with.  RL08 is still a large bodied boy and loves to swim on his back.  ( like a block of ice ).
RN44 ( his uncle, male born 2013) was nearby but did not interact with the kid.
The new pup PK2 is doing well and growing fast. He and his mom RK52 had long swim sessions and then a healthy snack. Apparently this boy is very vocal when hungry. At one point Val had a good laugh when Momma buried her head in the sand to tune him out. He also tried to find the milk nozzle on a nearby rock.

April 8, 2019 (part 2 ) - News from Kauai: "Oh My! What a big Weaner"

An email from our pal Val on Kauai, sharing her exciting news!
She was out the weekend doing a seal survey and found six seals, but what is really cool is four of the six were related to the Infamous ROCKY RH58. So here's the scoop"
Six year old son - RN44 male born 2013
Almost one year old son - RK58 2018 male
Eight year old daughter - RK52 female born 2011
Weaner grandkid L08 - born Feb 4th male.

If there was a lottery for finding the largest number of  "known" related seals, I think our pal Val hit the jackpot.

IF that isn't enough fun and cool facts for you, lets take a look at the stats for RL08/09. He was born on 2/4/2019 and nursed for 8 weeks.  He was measured length at 145 cm which is just over 58 inches, his girth measured 143 cm, which is just over 56 inches.  So.... think about that, if he wasn't round he would be a square!  Holy hannah!  I don't know the history, but he has to be one of the larger weaners on record.   Momma, RB00 ya done good.

I know Val had a pet name of "Bam Bam" well I would like to just add to his pet name as "Bam Bam Square Pants" !     Thank you Val for taking the time and sharing with us!
