April 8, 2023 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Melody, Marilyn and Team R&B💕
Melody received a text this morning about a seal at a west side beach. Since this is a popular spot for Rocky the person sending the text made the assumption it was her. When Melody arrived there was no one around and the seal was close to the waters edge and there were two signs that had been put up.
As Melody looked over the seal she realized this was not Rocky. She called the hotline and was told there was seal there yesterday. A resident told Melody that there had been a seal there for the past three days.
The seal did have lots of old scars and markers all over her. However Melody was not familiar with any of the markers. She called Team R&B and sent photos. After a bit of conversation tey were able to conclude it was KC RK28. Melody called back the hotline to update them on her ID since it had been assumed it was Rocky.  KC seems to be doing fine. She was active on the beach going down to the waters edge cooling off and then back up to the sand to snooze.  KC repeated this four time while Melody was there. Since she had to leave, her friend Diana came out to sit with her for the afternoon. Thank you both for looking after the old gal.

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 3:05 to 4:25 and there were eight seals on island today.
On LPB was Mom and PO4 and Marilyn confirmed it is in fact Sadie RB12 showing her applied N23 bleach. PO4 moved away from mom several times but came back on its own. Marilyn observed at least two nursings and it appears the kid is growing.
On the middle of LPB was an Unknown Adult: adult size, but unconfirmed gender or tags.
In their usual spot Mom 3 who Marilyn is labeling RF34 Pua and PO3. PO3 spent much of its time distant from Mom today. Guess its growing up because RF34 didn't seem too concerned.
About 30 feet Makapuu side of 3BS was a Subadult Female: subadult size, gray female belly and at least one tag probably two.
About 30 ft of the S/F was an Unknown Juvenile: juvenile size, at least one tag. Seal never showed its ventral side.
At 3:35 Marilyn became aware of a seal out on the Makapuu side of RRB. A Juvenile Female: juvenile to subadult size, light grayish yellow female belly and unsure about tags.

As Marilyn was driving home from Ka'ena Point she spotted a seal on one of the east side beaches. She checked in for about 10 minutes at 2:30. The seal was RO18 Right Spot who has a SRA around her. Folks seemed to be respectful. Right Spot was ID'd by her NB on her right side.

Team R&B started their day at a west side location, where they found two seals snoozing on high rocks. There was RP30 Puka and RL08 just resting.
At the same location but to the right at seal inlet there were two more seals snoozing together.  They were shocked to find RH32 Kaale there, since its been a long time since he's been at this site. And the other bugga wouldn't move for the longest time. Team R&B did manage to get a shot of its tag H33.
Next to Kaale was RG28 Lefty. The two of them probably resting up for their next adventure.

Lastly they stopped at the bay where they found RL20 Kalua on the rocks enjoying a peaceful nap alone.
To the right was a very plump RH76 Kala hiding in the rocks. Team R&B didn't stay long as there were lots of people out and they didn't want to draw any attention to the seals.
