April 14, 2023 (Part 1) Friday's Dailies

There was a lot happening today that I decided to split the dailies into two parts.  Part 2 is dedicated to Kaiwi RK96 giving birth.
Part One is brought to you by Tammy, Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Tammy went out to the point today with Lesley. Their first find was RK36 Kauai Kolohe, good to see the old boy. Next at hidden beach they found RW02 PvKauai.
Then they found two seals together, Ka'ena RO40 and Makali'i R416.  Seems the boys were all hanging out on the north shore today.
Then hidden in the rocks was R330 Squinty.  Lastly just as they were leaving they turned around and spotted something light in the rocks. They both though it would be a young seal because of it color but it turned out to be BG R303. Good thing she was hidden from all the males.

I wasn't kidding when I said lots going on today. Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island and there was a seal party, with 10 seals seen.
Out on the rock flats on LPB was an Adult Male 1: adult size, dark gray male belly, unsure about tags.
RB12 Sadie and PO4 were also on LPB. They mostly snoozed during Marilyn's viewing session. PO4 seems to be doing fine.
About two-thirds of the way between 1BS and 2BS was the find of the day! RQ44 Mahina (Aukai's 2022 pup)  Marilyn had not knowingly seen her for several months. She was ID'd by her juvenile size, female belly and 3 red flipper tags. Her coat is very brown with lots of green.
RF34 Pua and PO3 spent much of the time in the water. Once they hauled out there was a long nursing session in their usual spot on the beach at the middle cliff.
About 20 feet of the 3BS and partially hidden behind waterfront rocks was an Unknown Subadult: subadult size. light possibly female belly and unsure about tags.
Between the 3BS and SRI was an Adult Male 2 and RK37 Hui'a, both appeared to have just hauled out. A/M 2: large adult size, medium gray male belly with a horizontal scar or fold about mid-body, unsure about tags.
RK37 Hui'a: adult to subadult size, yellowish female belly, two red rags and a NB on her lower left
side. She will turn five years old this year.
On the rock flats near SRI was a Juvenile Female: juvenile size, light female belly with lots of green and two red tags.

Team R&B started at the outfall and saw a boat with lots of nets being picked up. They saw an Unknown Adult seal foraging near the boat, but they could not get an ID.
Then they spotted a seal on shore from afar. So they headed over and when they got to the area they were thrilled. There was the lovely R406, full of scars. She was quite alert, most likely due to the foot prints around her.

Team R&B checked out all their usual spots but weren't having a lot of luck. Finally they found RL20 Kalua on the rocks resting. They were a little worried about him since he was seen by the nets the other day, He was okay, Team R&B didn't stay long because there were so many people around.
They also found a seal mostly hidden in the pond snoozing. It did not give them anything to work with and it barely moved, except at one point blew some bubbles. They reported it as an Unknown/Unknown. Too many people near by so they gave up.
