April 13, 2023 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Melody and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:45 to 1:55 and there were seven seals on island today.
In the middle of LPB was Juvenile Female: juvenile size, greenish-gray female belly and possibly two red tags. This seal was in the same location as the juvenile male was yesterday.
RB12 Sadie and PO4 were on LPB closer to 1BS. There was snoozing and nursing, but Marilyn did not see any swimming during her session.
On the beach in the middle cliff area were RG34 Pua and PO3. They were initially in the water and then hauled out for a nursing session followed by snoozing when PO3 hauled up behind mom.
About 50 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS were two seals:
Subadult Male: smaller subadult size, light male belly, unsure about tags. He seems thin for his size.
Nearby was an Adult Female: adult to subadult size, older coat, yellowish-brown female belly and at least one tag. There appears to be a scar on the right side about a third way forward of the rear flippers.

Melody got word this morning that there was a seal in Waikiki. So of course she decided to head down to check out who was there. When she arrived she saw that an SRA was set and lots of people asking questions about the seal.  At first Melody wasn't sure who the seal was in that she was covered and sand and wasn't making it easy. Finally she shook off the sand and her NB was visible, it was RK96 Kaiwi.
She is looking quite plump and getting comfortable. She didn't move much, other than to put her head in the water. She mostly snoozed for the day, Melody left in the afternoon.

Team R&B started out early morning. Their first find of the day was RP30 Puka. He was alone on high rocks snoozing his morning away.

Next stop while looking out watching the dolphins they saw a seal pass by. So they watched and the seal hauled out. It was RH32 Kaale  and he was alone today.

Team R&B headed over to paradise cove thinking they were going to find two seals. They were surprised when they saw three large seals on shore.  A volunteer was on site, with ropes and signs.
There was RL12 Aukai being pursued by Nalu R3CX and RL08. R3CX and RL08 spent much of their time arguing. They would take an occasional break, breath and then go at it again. This caught the attention of lots of people, watching as the two seals fought.
At one point Aukai entered the shallows and stopped. RL08 and R3CX entered the water and of course another fight. RL08 took off, but came back and landed to the right right of Aukai and Nalu.

Team R&B did an afternoon check along the coast and they found one last seal. It was little RQ24 Mauna. He is looking quite green, they suspect he'll be going through a molt soon. They didn't stay long, so no one would notice him.
